Zonal President, Northeast

What you need to know:

Reporting to the Head of North America Field Operations, Northeast, the GI Zonal President is responsible to execute AIG’s Commercial Insurance market strategies within the Northeast Zone through our four distribution channels: Retail, Wholesale, Alternative Channels, and Direct Client Engagement).  This leader will support the achievement of planned financial performance for the Northeast Zone through execution of zonal and regional distribution strategies and provide local leadership to all business and functional teams, promoting professionalism and collaboration in the office and marketplace.


This is a critical leadership position overseeing a 12-state zone encompassing New England to the Mid-Atlantic, including the NY Metro Region.  With over 500 market employees in distribution underwriting, and service covering over 70 technical products and services across Major, Corporate, and Small to Medium Enterprise business segments, the Northeast Zone is a core part of AIG’s overall business, representing approximately 33% of US Commercial GPW.  This leader will partner across business units and cross-functionally to help drive AIG’s ongoing transformation, with financial accountability for GI Commercial business in the Northeast. While headquarters are in New York, this role can be located in any of our major offices throughout the Zone.


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Together with Product and Underwriting leadership, define and drive strategies to achieve target GPW, new and renewal business, and KPIs for the region
  • Collaborate with Retail, Wholesale, Alternative Channel and Global businesses to develop and deliver tailored distribution solutions for the Northeast
  • Implement regional broker strategic action plans in conjunction with national broker strategic action plans
  • Drive both alignment and transactional excellence with Zonal Business Units through effective use of strategic action plans, production and visibility reports, Opportunity Finder, Top Trades/Escalation and KPIs tracking Greenspace initiative and creating pipeline consistency
  • Ensure client retention and satisfaction to support culture of collaboration across the businesses for cross-selling and customer support
  • Support Zonal and Regional Balanced Trade strategy and demonstrate results through national Balanced Trade Scorecard
  • Represent GI with local broker leadership and clients on strategic and transactional objectives
  • Deliver on GI North America’s mission to champion customer centricity through differentiated distribution that leverages our key assets and franchises
  • Partner effectively with key stakeholders to promote operating and service excellence
  • Collaborate with other Zone Presidents to share market and operational opportunities and implement best practices across the country
  • Support Asian Corporate Solutions internally and externally to maximize our offering and opportunities in the Asian-based multinational space
  • Model an inclusive and motivational leadership style emphasizing transparency and collaboration
  • Contribute to and actively work across the enterprise to promote a best-in-class people strategy including fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability, transparency, diversity, equity, inclusion with a commitment to alignment and bias for action


Job Requirements:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in brokerage, underwriting, and/or distribution, including 10+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience
  • Broad market knowledge and contacts in one or more relevant lines of business or industry specializations, e.g. Commercial Property and Casualty, Financial Lines, Specialty, Programs and Captives, Multinational, Accident & Health, etc.
  • Working knowledge of relevant distribution channels, including retail, wholesale, alternatives and direct
  • Strong technical and financial acumen with P&L ownership orientation
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully attract, retain, and develop talent via a culture of
  • real-time performance feedback, with ability to build both technical and leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence senior level management and internal/external stakeholders of all levels
  • Demonstrated organizational intelligence and strong relationship management skills with internal stakeholders
