Role description and opportunities

Writer will report to the Head of Growth Initiatives and is a senior member of the team that conceives, builds, and executes the marketing, thought leadership, communications, partnership, and commercial initiatives that will enable the next chapter in BNY Mellon’s growth.

 

The incoming writer is a versatile, collaborative communicator capable of curating and driving the development of communications and marketing content, including writing and developing content, creating thought leadership, messaging, white papers, and client materials etc. – may take on large-scale thought leadership projects and initiatives involving multiple stakeholder groups and often corporate-wide.


Key responsibilities include the following

  • Leads large scale content and thought leadership projects and initiatives, with end-to-end responsibilities
  • Leads discussions with assigned client/stakeholder group(s) to develop content for external or internal communication strategies, typically around a specific topic, initiative or event
  • Anticipates client needs and steers strategy discussions. Viewed as a trusted advisor to leadership
  • Creates content relevant to the established communication strategy. Ensures that content meets the requirements of the client/stakeholder and initiative, as well as any brand or style standards
  • Writes and edits copy, adapting approach and form to relevant communication channel, demonstrating the ability to develop and adopt unique voices
  • Develops new/novel communications and marketing material with little precedent and requiring imagination and originality, keeping abreast of industry topics and industry trends
  • Approves initiation and delivery of finalized content, ensuring appropriate approvals and signoffs before delivery
  • Monitors and analyzes the effectiveness of delivered communications and marketing


A successful candidate should ideally have these qualifications

  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, juggle multiple priorities and execute flawlessly with great attention to detail, including grammar, spelling, etc.
  • Superior writing and copy editing skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional financial services, and the ability to quickly learn new and complex concepts
  • Be able to handle various project types and have experience writing across media — print and digital, long and short form, and write for both trade and popular publications
  • Demonstrated portfolio of impactful writing projects
  • Team player who enjoys collaborating with a team, looking to make a difference and be part of exciting transformational projects
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree in Communications or Marketing is preferred
  • 10 - 12 years of total work experience preferred. Familiarity with internal and external outreach, prior journalistic experience a plus.
