Writer

HKS is seeking an experienced writer who contributes to a culture of storytelling within the content marketing practice at HKS in collaboration with Marketing Communications and project teams.

Uses independent judgment to create marketing content. Demonstrates exemplary writing, editing and communications skills with an eye for detail along with critical thinking. Anticipates job expectations while performing design and technical tasks requiring application of standard techniques and knowledge.

Responsibilities:

• Suggests stories and generates headline ideas in alignment with the preference of the firm’s targeted audience
• Creates content, copy and concepts across a wide range of mediums including web text such as feature stories, project descriptions, bios, case studies, blog posts and press releases; ghost-written bylines; research reports; social media text; marketing text including boilerplate; campaign concepts; email marketing and other related writing duties
• Successfully executes and completes writing assignments from the Editor or other managers
• Meets all agreed upon deadlines
• Writes in HKS brand voice and establishes messaging direction in every execution
• Checks content for accuracy and errors by proofreading, editing, and improving stories or posts; helps edit contributions of writers and freelancers as needed
• Collaborates with internal clients as a brand journalist to uncover the stories and insights that lead to meaningful messaging and concepts
• Translates creative direction and creative briefs into engaging and effective messaging and copy concepts
• Leads research, concept creation, ideation and copy editing for web projects
• Cooperates and liaises with designers, photographers, editors, fellow writers and other members of the Marketing/Communications team
• Learns and collaborates with peers, mentors and managers in a multidisciplinary environment

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Art History, Architecture or related degree
• Typically with 5+ years of writing experience
• Experience in Adobe Creative Suite such as InDesign, Photoshop or other publishing tools
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred
• Fluency in Mandarin or Spanish is a plus
• Proven experience as a writer
• Familiarity with metadata, tagging, SEO and social media best practices
• Knowledge of, and interest in, architecture/interior design preferred
• Understanding of web trends and technologies, including established and emerging capabilities
• Strong interviewing, writing and editing skills, with the ability to write in a range of voices and styles for diverse channels and audiences
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and customers; ability to forge trusting relationships within a diverse team
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
• Ability to hold sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and integrity
• Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
• Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions
• Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment, and ability to work independently and prioritize work
• Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality
