The VP of Total Rewards and Wellbeing will collaborate closely with senior leadership, compensation, finance, wellbeing committees, HRBPs, environmental health and safety, and other key stakeholders to advance the Total Rewards, Occupational Health, and Wellbeing strategy at Boston Children’s hospital. This role reports to the SVP of Total Rewards and HR Operations and will drive the delivery of customer focused, high-quality total rewards, occupational health, and wellbeing programs.


In addition to capitalizing on the existing value-added programs, this role will take a data driven, outcome-based approach to designing a holistic and inclusive strategy for the organization.

  • This VP of Total Rewards and Wellbeing will:Drive strategic planning that positions Boston Children’s Hospital as an Employer of Choice in a competitive labor market.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of programs to ensure deployment of the most well-rounded and inclusive total rewards programs that engage a multi-generational and diverse workforce.
  • Develop and direct the management of benefits, workers’ compensation, and well-being plans, including reporting and analysis, design, cost management, administration, customer service, communication, and vendor management.
  • Design and develop communication strategies to increase engagement and build awareness of programs, including rebranding, total rewards statements, and other engagement strategies.
  • Mentor and support leaders across the HR community, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.
  • Stay current on legislation, trends and marketplace changes to make recommendations to ensure competitiveness and compliance.
  • Ensure programs are modern, innovative, cost-effective and outcomes-focused.
  • Collaborate with EHS teams to establish and meet institutional health and safety goals.
  • Develop dashboards with established KPIs to assess program effectiveness (i.e. program engagement, plan utilization, healthcare claims, productivity, accommodations, etc.).
  • Analyze demographic data, claims history, utilization, market trends, and other data to identify program gaps and implement actionable, preventative measures to improve health outcomes.
  • Manage the program budgets to optimize value, effectiveness and efficiency and demonstrate measurable results to validate the investment.


To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree in Business Administration or Healthcare
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with benefits, wellbeing, and absence management programs
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Expertise with total rewards strategy including benefits, absence management, and wellbeing programs is preferred
  • Healthcare experience preferred; alternatively, experience in life sciences or high performing business or academic environments
  • Executive presence in communicating and working effectively with all levels of an organization.
  • Naturally collaborative and team oriented. Develops credible relationships by setting clear expectations and delivering results.
  • Strong influencing skills and ability to think strategically and translate strategy into action.
  • Ability to influence without authority in a complex, highly matrixed environment
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions.
  • Superior judgement, communication, and negotiation skills.
