VP, Technology & Cyber Risk Management

Newark, NJ

Technology & Cyber Risk is part of the Information Risk & Resilience organization within Operational Risk Management (ORM). We provide independent 2nd line risk oversight of Prudential’s technology organization, including critical technology processes and large-scale high impact technology initiatives, as well as business initiatives where technology is a key enabler. We provide effective challenge of technology programs supporting key risks, including cyber/information security, resilience and third-party risk. We review and challenge first line risk program implementation and execution, ensuring management’s activities are carried out in accordance with the ORM framework and standards, are addressing the top risks to the Company and are aligned with our risk appetite.


What will you do?

  • Provide specialist second line subject matter expert review and challenge of first line activities. This includes Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA), initiative risk assessments and other program level assessments (e.g., FS-Profile, HIPAA Security, etc.), ensuring these accurately reflect the risk posture and are appropriately scoped and executed to achieve the right outcomes.
  • Provide a risk-based review and challenge of loss events and issues to ensure root cause analysis and control gaps are being adequately identified, actioned, reported and escalated to all necessary stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring is in place to identify early warnings (e.g., KRIs, KPIs, KCIs, OKRs) so that corrective action can be taken before risks materialize.
  • Identify emerging and thematic risk exposures and ensure these are appropriately assessed and actioned upon.
  • Provide an independent assessment of business exposure resulting from technology related risks and control gaps to assist the business in understanding, managing, and mitigating the right risks in line with their business strategy and objectives.
  • Ensure risks and exposures are transparent to senior management and other stakeholders so that they can be acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Partner with other second line Operational Risk leaders to ensure appropriate subject matter coverage across broader business led initiatives where technology is a key enabler.


Qualifications:

This position requires resourcefulness, good judgment, persistence, the ability to influence others and strong leadership qualities. Candidates should have experience working with a diverse set of stakeholders across large, complex organizations. The successful candidate will bring technical knowledge, skills and experience in risk management.  


Additional specific requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Experience in financial services/insurance or other highly regulated industries
  • 10+ years experience gained through a combination of technology, risk and/or audit related roles; candidates with management consulting experience in these areas would also be desirable.
  • Expertise and experience in one or more of the following (preferably through a combination of experience in roles across the three lines of defense): 1) Large scale technology transformation change programs, including shifting from Waterfall to Scaled Agile; 2) IT infrastructure platforms and operations, including traditional on-prem, cloud and hybrid environments; 3) Cybersecurity and resilience, with knowledge across various domains (Identify/Prevent/Detect/Respond/Recover).
  • Must be highly collaborative, open-minded, and able to work with and influence others without having direct authority
  • Proven track record of effectively working with data to manage risk and process re-engineering, simplification and streamlining
  • Comfortable in ambiguity, self-directed and an agent and advocate for change
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and effectively manage time
  • Relevant industry certifications are a plus (CRISC, CISM, CISSP, etc.)


Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $183,600.00 to $248,400.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
