VP, Talent Acquisition

Boston, MA

We are looking for a VP of Talent Acquisition to design and apply strategies that will help us attract and hire diverse, qualified and talented team members for our fast-paced, dynamic and growing (no pun intended) cannabis industry.


VP of Talent Acquisition responsibilities include managing a team of recruiters and developing sourcing strategies for various “seed to sale” roles, entry-level to executive-level positions. This person should be able to ensure we provide an excellent candidate experience, while meeting our business objectives and filling our vacancies within minimal time.


Overall, this person will continue to build a strong “people culture” employer brand for our organization so we may develop strong, top talent pipelines for current and future hiring needs.


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Drive strategic recruitment plans and present regular updates to senior management and diversity committees about the overall recruiting strategy/processes.
  • Formulate selling strategies for those candidates with offers
  • Design and execute recruiting strategies to attract, evaluate and hire qualified candidates
  • Lead the organizations “2nd chance hiring initiatives” to ensure 10% of all hires.
  • Proactively identify and address hiring needs
  • Evaluate and refine sourcing and selection procedures
  • Manage a team of recruiters and provide assistance as needed
  • Promote diversity in the workplace and ensure recruiting strategies attract diverse candidates
  • Oversee and improve overall candidate experience
  • Maintain talent pipelines with potential candidates and past applicants for future staffing needs
  • Organize diverse recruitment events to establish a strong employer brand
  • Manage and analyze data within the recruiting software (ATS)
  • Ensure proper onboarding and training for new hires
  • Partner with counterparts to drive efficiencies and greater consistency in processes and practices and to share knowledge and best practice
  • Develop and coordinate strategic recruiting partners for campus and university programs for candidates.
  • Regularly evaluate sources of hire (schools visited, diverse partners, organizations, referrals, etc.) and correlate back to cost per hire and performance. Adjust sourcing strategy as necessary
  • Develop expertise on recruiting techniques, competitive intelligence, generational insight, and interviewing skills
  • Ensure that all recruiting activities are conducted in a framework of strong compliance and control, including effective and structured processes for interviewing and evaluating candidates
  • Track, manage and analyze recruiting budget, statistics and metrics on an on-going basis, to identify strategic significance and provide trends to key stakeholders.


People and Relationship Management:

  • Develop strong working relationships with key business stakeholders to help motivate their participation in recruiting and hiring efforts including participation in recruiting events and as interviewers.
  • Partner with other recruiting managers to share best practices and implement companywide and local recruiting initiatives and strategies.
  • Manage recruiting team and help individuals set goals and objectives, provide regular feedback and coaching.
  • Ensure proper visibility of recruiting program with hiring managers, executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry recruitment professionals, contractors, sourcing agencies, HR technology and other line of business recruiting teams.


Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years relevant experience preferred
  • Financial Services, Recruiting, entry-level program management and/or related knowledge/experience would be an advantage but experience from other sectors considered
  • People management experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate the business strategy into a comprehensive campus recruitment agenda
  • Strong organizational and planning capabilities; ability to multi-task with demonstrated track record of setting and executing end-to-end project or program strategies
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with key partners and stakeholders across a broad organization
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to assess situations using both qualitative and quantitative factors
  • Judgment in managing conflict; solving problems and making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
