VP of User Experience

The Shutterstock UX & Product Design team is seeking an experienced individual to lead our UX practice. As the voice of the consumer within the wall of Shutterstock, this person will work with Product, Marketing, Sales and other functional leaders to help build an amazing experience for users and customers. The VP of User Experience will lead a team of user experience designers to help drive the development of products and experiences that gratify users and drive key business outcomes. That means quantitative, qualitative and analytical research. It also means a lot of collaboration with product owners and developers.  This is a senior-level role with significant responsibility, creativity, technical expertise, and business sense required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development, execution, and improvement of user experience and product design strategy across the end-to-end customer and contributor journeys
  • Evolve the Design Ops strategy for Shutterstock by improving processes and helping to train designers and cross-functional teams to evangelize the Shutterstock Design System across the organization
  • Participate in important strategic initiatives and key new business development efforts
  • Contribute UX and Design thought-leadership to a highly collaborative team of UX, product, and engineering with a focus on converting strong conceptual thinking and product strategy to impactful and intuitive experiences
  • Closely partner with marketing and brand teams to ensure strong visual design and consistent brand expression across all consumer touchpoints
  • Partner with management team to analyze, design, document and communicate the short and long-term UX & Product Design strategy
  • Lead team of designers through rapidly evolving complex demands including multiple projects with dependencies on other internal teams
  • Apply and further develop your experience in developing new approaches to design based on industry best practices, including agile and lean product development methodologies
  • Embrace A/B testing as a methodology to understand what design and interactions work best toward acquiring more customers/contributors and retaining them
  • Recruit and develop extraordinary talent, by coaching, managing and mentoring teams of designers  

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience leading and managing teams of designers with strong domain expertise across your career demonstrating your ability to deliver products with elegant interaction and visual design
  • Degree in Design or Art; Visual Design, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Motion, Architecture, Urban Planning, Graphic Design, HCI, or related field of study (or work experience in lieu of degree)
  • Master of design tools such as Sketch, Abstract, Framer, Principle; understanding of HTML/JavaScript/CSS that informs design and interaction decisions and ability to create interactive prototypes using HTML and/or prototyping software a big plus
  • Background includes having launched successful and highly visible digital products in the consumer marketplace showing your ability to balance conversion best practices with brand-centric and human-centered design
  • Your passion for digital product design is easy to discern from your past work
  • You are a natural leader with the ability to communicate and inspire all levels of your team
  • You have a design aesthetic. Your documents are simple, informative and filled with value
  • You are a master of your craft and know design trends and patterns, while also staying aware of technological feasibility
  • You are comfortable working in the Agile methodology and how UX fits into that practice
  • You are able to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • You listen well and have excellent speaking and writing skills and can articulate your decision and design process
  • You are respectful when challenging assumptions and give and receive feedback with equal grace
  • You have the ability to influence peers and managers to build consensus
  • You have a curiosity that drives you to look at the world as a solution instead of just existing patterns and mental models
  • You enjoy working with a great group of designers, who genuinely care about design, and each other
  • You are passionate about developing and mentoring junior design talent
