VP Environmental Sustainability & ESG Reporting

The Vice President Environmental Sustainability & ESG Reporting within the Social Impact & Sustainability Department of MGM Resorts International will take an executive leadership role the development and execution of strategies to reduce the environmental impacts of MGM’s buildings, operations, and events. The role will also oversee all aspects of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) data collection, reporting and disclosure against multiple ESG frameworks including SASB, CDP, TCFD, GRI and many others. This position will report to the Chief People, Inclusion and Sustainability Officer and will oversee a central core team, expert outside consultants, and will also routinely collaborate with dedicated environmental sustainability staff integrated into core functional areas such as facilities, procurement, and operations. The Vice President will help initiate new environmental initiatives, further integrate environmental thinking and programs into additional functional areas, and work with marketing, investor relations, and communications teams to communicate the company’s extensive environmental programs to a wide array of stakeholders. The scope of environmental issues covered includes but is not limited to: environmentally sustainable design and development, energy, climate (including climate risk), water, materials and waste, circular economy, and environmentally preferable procurement. The scope of ESG reporting covered includes mandatory disclosures (e.g. emerging SEC mandates on climate and human capital) and voluntary disclosures to help improve MGM’s performance. The successful candidate will be a savvy change-maker, able to influence without authority and comfortable working at all levels of the company from the Board to the front line and across all functional areas and properties, globally. 


This Vice President will actively represent the Companies environmental programs and ESG performance to internal and external audiences. This position requires significant expertise in environmental analysis, data analysis, and business case development. They will also be responsible for managing a central budget and engaging other leaders to allocate budget for environmental initiatives and ESG reporting needs.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop the long-term strategy to reduce the company’s primary environmental impacts across design & development, energy, climate, water, materials & waste, and supply chain, in line with its 2025 and 2030 goals.
  • Design roadmaps and drive implementation of environmentally sustainable practices, within functional areas and properties.
  • Identify opportunities to implement innovative new programs to enhance the environmental performance of the company.
  • Own the company’s long-term decarbonization plan including its goals to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% and source 100% renewable electricity by 2030; develop enhanced strategies to mitigate climate risks.
  • Collaborate with Design & Facilities teams to implement leading green building strategies including related to energy, water, and material-efficient design (notably in relation to the Company’s planned multi-billion dollar development in Japan).
  • Collaborate with Procurement teams to implement environmentally preferable procurement in priority categories including food & beverage and drive long-term reduction in scope 3 emissions.
  • Collaborate with Convention Sales, Services and Catering teams to engage convention clients in the Company’s industry-leading Sustainable Events Program.
  • Collaborate with marketing, communications, investor relations, government relations and other teams to drive stakeholder awareness of the company’s environmental initiatives, and ESG performance.
  • Lead all Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting and disclosures for MGM Resorts including but not limited to: Bloomberg ESG, CDP, GRI, ISS, SASB, TCFD and others. 
  • Lead reporting on the company’s global commitments including to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UN Global Compact.
  • Oversee the implementation and ongoing operations of the company’s central ESG technology platform.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of an extensive range of ESG metrics, globally.
  • Lead the Company’s ESG Taskforce.
  • Prepare management and board presentations on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental Sustainability.
  • Strive to drive and prove economic value delivered through environmental sustainability efforts. 
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, while also pursuing actions far “beyond compliance”.
  • Own the application of "best practice" standards across the company.
  • Conduct financial analysis, budget preparation and understanding business metrics.
  • Execute highly complex, multi-year projects.
  • Oversee Human Resources responsibilities for the specifically assigned areas; create and maintain a work environment that promotes client service, teamwork, performance feedback, individual recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction ensuring quality hiring, training, and succession planning processes that encompass the company’s diversity commitment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sustainability / environmental policy / environmental science or equivalent experience
  • Seven (7) years of experience in developing, implementing, and institutionalizing environmental initiatives in a large, diverse, and dynamic organizational environment
  • Three (3) years of experience in ESG data collection and reporting


PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree / MBA
  • Hospitality experience 
  • Previous experience working in a similar large-scale resort setting


PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • GRI-Certified (Global Reporting Initiative)
  • FSA (Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting)
