As the Vice President Core Capabilities, you will provide strategic leadership, direction, and execution of FedEx’s digital platform strategy and vision. Develop an ongoing competitive analysis to inform platform strategy. You will lead cross-functional teams building highly technical capabilities and platform components and will bring a systems thinking mindset. Your focus is in leading and managing towards the big picture. 


You are exceptional at identifying common patterns; Allowing for core needs to be identified, prioritized, and implemented effectively.  This involves prioritizing work that serves the strategic vision balanced against quick-win customer outcomes.


Essential Duties / Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Leadership and Alignment:
  • Lead the strategic direction of the company’s platform vision, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.
  • Shape the platform strategy and architectural vision to drive innovation and technological excellence.
  • Promote continuous improvement and innovation by staying abreast of customer feedback, business objectives, emerging technologies and market trends.
  • Oversee departments that build new capabilities (or optimize existing) to drive the business forward against established revenue and growth goals and ensuring a platform first, scalable and flexible way
  • Define success metrics, KPIs and monitor ongoing platform performance, taking action where necessary to improve performance
  • Set the strategic plan and roadmap for the platform, prioritizing deliverables and activities for the teams to best achieve the stated business outcomes
  • Ensuring platform scalability, security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Systems Thinking and Innovation:
  • Foster a culture of systems thinking, analyzing, and optimizing complex systems of machines, humans, and processes.
  • Promote a first principles methodology, focusing on breaking down problems into their simplest parts and building solutions from the ground up.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex problems by collaborating across regions, product areas, and functions.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, business units, and IT teams to align architectural initiatives with business objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure their needs and priorities are reflected in the platform strategy.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key partners and developers who build on or integrate with the platform
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to executive and non-technical audiences.
  • Talent Development and Management:
  • Define the core capabilities and platform team’s structure, roles, and responsibilities aligned with the organization’s talent strategy.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent to ensure the organization has the skills and expertise needed to achieve architectural excellence.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
  • Assess budgetary requirements and prepare the budget in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives.
  • Build investment cases for the platform in collaboration with product strategy leadership
  • Optimize resource allocation to support priorities and ensure efficient use of investments.
  • Travel required.


Other Skills/Abilities Considered a plus:

  • Product management experience in platform teams, working on capabilities and features that are used by other internal teams and/or partners 
  • Systems thinking, exceptional at identifying common patterns needed to achieve strategic outcomes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as this role often involves working with various stakeholders and partners
  • Experience creating roadmap(s) from conception to launch, driving the platform vision
  • Strong logical reasoning, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Curiosity driven mindset that seeks to understand customer and technical problems and strives to builds capabilities that solve for those problems 
  • Completely comfortable with using data and data tools to build understanding and insight
  • Experience in product management, preferably with a focus on platforms or APIs
  • Strong technical knowledge and the ability to work closely with engineering teams
  • An understanding of user experience (UX) design principles and the ability to advocate for the needs of platform users
  • Experience with data analysis and the ability to use data-driven insights to inform product decisions
  • Knowledge of industry trends, competitive landscape, and best practices for platform development


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in marketing, experience design, research, computer science, IT, business administration, finance or related field. Product management experience with a proven track record of launching new products.


A minimum of 10 years of work experience related to product/service development, design thinking, technology, consulting, business planning, project management, financial analysis, research, and pricing. Excellent business acumen, organizational awareness, human relations and communication skills required. Ability to provide strategic leadership and overall direction to the organization’s vision.


Domicile Location:

This position will be based in Memphis, TN, Plano, TX, or Pittsburgh, PA.

Relocation maybe available based on business need
