The Job

Based in our NY offices and reporting to the SVP Content Acquisition, the VP, Content Acquisition will play a key leadership role in the team’s content-licensing efforts, primarily focusing on the ad-supported linear networks of TBS, TNT, truTV, TCM, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, but we are “one team” also covering HBO, Cinemax and HBOMax, and this role will be expected to have skills/experience to support acquisitions across WarnerMedia’s entire portfolio of networks and services. This role requires a high level of collaboration across many internal teams: Programming Scheduling and Strategy, Finance, Research, BA/Legal, and Ops, and the VP must set an example of working effectively and respectfully with colleagues at all levels across WarnerMedia.


The Daily

  • Track and evaluate potential content opportunities to drive acquisitions strategy in coordination with Programming, Research and Finance teams.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and participate in all aspects of deal negotiation, collaborating with Finance, Marketing, Research, Ad-Sales and other internal stakeholders, and coordinating with Legal through contract execution.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with content partners and industry counterparts to stay on top of industry trends, have insight into emerging acquisition targets and drive deal value.
  • Lead departmental initiatives, undertake special projects and drive insights to grow and maintain WarnerMedia’s competitive advantages in the marketplace.
  • Collaborate across WarnerMedia to identify and unlock strategies to optimize content buying and utilization across the company’s entire portfolio of businesses.


The Essentials

  • You have 10+ years relevant entertainment-industry experience, with at least four years working in content acquisitions, content sales or distribution.
  • You have expert knowledge of the film industry, linear television market, and the digital-distribution landscape, with command of market- and competitive analysis and the ability to strategically assess opportunities and make data-driven decisions.
  • You have demonstrated experience in managing teams and leading complex, high-stakes deals.
  • You have superb communication, presentation, persuasion, and diplomatic skills and thrive in a hard-working, collaborative environment.
  • You have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments at once while monitoring timelines and adjusting work as needed to achieve incredible success.
  • You're a polished professional who is comfortable serving as the main contact for executives, internal stakeholders, partners, and third-parties.
  • You are a self-starter and a strong teammate who can work independently, collaboratively and responsibly. You must have discretion and the ability to work with highly confidential matters.
  • You are agile, flexible and capable of thriving in a changing industry.
  • MBA, legal or equivalent work experience is desired.
