VP, Communications

Houston, TX

As Vice President of Communications for Oilfield Services (OFS) you will serve as a strategic leader within the business and lead the development and delivery of a compelling Corporate Affairs & OFS narrative focused on transformation and winning within the context of the new Baker Hughes brand and positioning. This position will be critical to championing the communications, voice, brand reputation, and core messaging of Baker Hughes as an energy technology company. 


With a great focus on employment engagement, you will also be a key partner in the nurturing and development of the Baker Hughes culture, leading by personal example and through the oversight of a comprehensive engagement plan supported by smart communications channels and innovative content that breaks through “ordinary” corporate content. You should have deep business acumen, a solid conviction, a high emotional IQ, and an ability to not only manage but thrive in a dynamic and demanding environment. 


As VP of OFS Communications, you will be a part of the OFS Senior leadership team, reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and the BH Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. You will manage a team and help define the strategic communications vision and develop the strategic communications plan to execute on this vision. You will also closely partner with the Marketing, HR and Commercialization teams. You will also be expected to offer innovative ideas and detailed action plans to enable Baker Hughes strategic growth areas.


As Vice President of Communications for Oilfield Services (OFS), you will be responsible for:

  • Providing communications strategy, vision, thought leadership, and counsel for OFS.
  • Developing clear strategic internal, external and culture communications framework for the Oilfield Services Product Company and align with messaging from across the BH enterprise.
  • Being able to present a clear and compelling vision on strategy, business, and function.
  • Identifying and supporting high profile speaking opportunities for the EVP and OFS SLT members, including negotiating and managing sponsorship opportunities, developing messaging, and supporting executives on-site when necessary at industry conferences and events.
  • Providing a broad range of communications functions and services across a business or for a particular geographical regions or hub. Partners with business leadership to ensure the performance of communications generalist activities.
  • Setting the communications activities for the business, internal and external, including consistent communication policies, procedures, and planning processes.
  • Leading the OFS rebranding effort, ensuring the Baker Hughes brand is rolled out across OFS in a well-coordinated, cost effective, and powerful way consistent with the overall BH rebrand plan.
  • Developing content, campaigns and social communities that drive customer and stakeholder engagement.
  • Establishing metrics to measure and report on value being delivered by the position and OFS Communications team.
  • Attracting, managing, and building talent in support of a high performing team with a focus on DEI.
  • Effectively mentoring, developing and inspiring members of the division with diverse levels of experience and expertise.
  • Supporting, as a partner to the Marketing and HR functions, OFS’ “Business Transformation” as a key partner.
  • Ensuring OFS communication efforts align to internal messaging so that customers, suppliers, and employees understand strategic vision.
  • Developing and managing communications channel development, including internal and external platforms (intranet, website, etc.), and relevant social media platforms, in partnership with enterprise Communications team.
  • Managing all OFS related media engagements and serve as OFS spokesperson.
  • Serving as an influencer and partner to the business and its top leadership, establishing a trusted adviser role with top corporate leaders.
  • Developing and implementing communication messaging for the business, product lines and developing creative vehicles to expand market presence.
  • Serving as subject matter expert on branding, public relations, and communications to geographic and business units.
  • Developing the business infrastructure to provide timely, consistent, and relevant communications.
  • Managing community relations and crisis management communications.
  • Serving on extended BH Communications leadership team and supporting enterprise-wide positioning and messaging where appropriate.
  • Dedicating time not only to complex cases requiring interpretation and ad hoc development of rules but also concerning with developing new approaches, methods and tools.

  • Have prior experience managing graphic design and other external vendors.
  • Be a collaborative team player able to work cross-functionally and in teams.
  • Be able to maintain discretion and manage confidential information.
  • Be able to interact with all levels of the organization with solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Have solid interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) from an accredited university or college preferably in communications, journalism or public relations.
  • Have at least 10+ additional years of experience in a very good experience in a broad-based communications role, focusing on both internal and external corporate communications and with good branding experience.
  • Be willing and able to travel 20% of the time.
  • Have energy industry experience as a plus.
