VP, Business Development

Volta is looking for an innovative and experienced auto business development leader to help build Volta’s presence and market positioning for new mobility solutions by locating, developing, defining, and ultimately closing automotive and other mobility related (i.e. rideshare, carshare, micromobility, rental, etc.) business relationships nationwide. The ideal candidate has an intimate knowledge of how the automotive industry works, a deep understanding of all ancillary players (auto makers, dealers, etc.), and innovative ideas to set an entirely new standard for how the industry will evolve across various operating models as it relates to EV charging infrastructure. You will need to dive into the Volta model at both the strategic, operational, and technical levels, understand how our products/model can address market opportunities today, and help shape both product and business strategy going forward.


The Auto Partnerships Team will be responsible to build, qualify, and manage a significant relationship pipeline with automotive OEM’s and other mobility companies. You will lay the groundwork to drive Volta’s growth in the automotive sector and other mobility related technologies and programs by developing strategic relationships across organizations, bringing innovative thinking to bear, best practices to projects, and building value-based solutions that connect to Volta’s full business model, aimed at addressing a diverse set of partner needs.  


In your first 90 days, you will

  • Develop a strong understanding of the Volta company strategy and business model and sales narrative, as well as begin to educate oneself on the larger core and peripheral industries
  • Build cross functional relationships with Volta’s various business unit leaders and begin to understand their respective product and program strategies
  • Map current automotive market and develop outreach plan, leveraging existing Volta relationships, personal rolodex, as well as new connections
  • Begin outreach strategy to high priority automotive partners, collecting customer need requirements and forming internal partnership strategy roadmaps


After twelve months, you will have accomplished

  • Mastery of the Volta company strategy, business model, and sales narrative with a deep understanding of the opportunity and risk of Volta’s current and future platform and product, customer, and geographic footprint as it related to automotive partners
  • Robust pipeline and relationships built across whole automotive and larger mobility landscape
  • Internal product and program strategies influenced to create win strategies for long-term automotive/ mobility partnerships
  • Multiple mobility partnerships delivering accretive value to Volta through network growth, revenue creation, technology integration, PR and branding overlap, or other long-term strategic programming
  • Thought leader on the future state of the industry and potential impact to Volta’s overall mobility strategy


What you bring to Volta Charging

  • Prior Business Development experience with at least 15+ years focused on the automotive and/or mobility sectors 
  • A deep understanding of the automotive and mobility markets, competition, and how to leverage core competencies to create defensible strategies
  • Proven network of senior (Director level and above) relationships in the industry
  • Proven ability to develop, foster and maintain high-quality relationships with leaders in automotive and counterparts
  • Verifiable record of leading multiple pursuits and winning new business opportunities greater than $5M in the automotive or other relevant sector 
  • Ability to create sound business models, value propositions, pricing and other strategies to close opportunities by synthesizing information and ensuring alignment with customer priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with outstanding interpersonal facilitation and negotiation skills
  • The ability to excel in a dynamic work environment as an early leader of a growing team
  • Firm understanding of a disciplined process; strong organizational skills, initiative, and commitment to high-quality work
  • A passion for technology and an understanding of the electric mobility space, trends, and dynamicsA self-starter mentality with the ability to work autonomously to drive projects to completion
