Video Producer

Chicago, IL

The Video Producer, a member of the Creative Team, will play an integral role in the development and execution of impactful video content that tells the story of the Foundation’s mission, the Obama Presidential Center, and inspires audiences to take action. You will support the creation of video content for Obama.org, social media, in-person and virtual events, and more. Importantly, you will focus on ensuring smooth and efficient workflows throughout the production process — all while managing internal and external production logistics and video projects across a range of timelines.


Core Job Responsibilities

  • Support the internal video production process: Build detailed project schedules, manage scope, maintain documentation, and communicate proactively to internal team members on all aspects of production (including critical milestones, deliverables, and due dates) to keep projects flowing smoothly. Track video expenses and manage the monthly expense report process. 
  • Assist with logistics for video shoots, including Foundation events: This includes: researching and booking cinematographers, editors, and other video or event vendors as necessary, scouting locations, collecting releases, prepping for and scheduling interviews, booking travel, renting equipment, and setting clear expectations for the quality standards of all deliverables. 
  • Manage contracts, freelance consultants, and third party resources: Establish that all vendor contracts are executed efficiently with clear Statements of Work and deliverables in coordination with Legal including: submitting subjects for vetting, collecting NDAs, and ensuring that all usage rights and licensing agreements are in place for third party assets (photo, video, music, etc.).
  • Oversee post-production processes: Research sources for photos, video, and music, export audio for transcription and SRTs, make transcript highlight recommendations, upload final files to YouTube and the Foundation’s internal database
  • Lead video asset management processes - Engage with internal teams on asset management process and metadata strategy, organize and ingest video footage, attach metadata, , create and maintain systems for both archival and new assets. Ensure systems are in place for ingesting, organizing, and searching video content.
  • Expand our storytelling: Actively stay on top of industry trends, craft-makers, techniques, potential vendors and new technologies for production to elevate the Foundation’s video content. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


Key Deliverables / Outcomes

  • Video shoot logistics are planned and executed efficiently and accurately
  • Best practices are implemented for a smooth post-production process including: ingesting footage, sending audio for transcripts, researching stock footage and music, gathering user-generated content and preparing SRTs and final files
  • Video contracts are executed efficiently and in compliance with the Legal team process, vendors are properly vetted through our internal process
  • Systems are in place for ingesting and organizing existing assets into the digital asset management system
  • Video content is tailored and optimized for channel distribution and key metrics (views, engagement, actions taken, etc.) meet or exceed goals set
  • Creative and communications team and other stakeholders are effectively engaged in processes and have information and assets when needed


Required Qualifications

  • Strong and adaptive production skills
  • Stellar communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated track record of producing a range of video content for various distribution channels
  • Passionate storyteller with a track record of developing impactful video content, from sourcing subjects to conducting interviews, to choosing selects
  • Exceptional project manager — organized and capable of managing multiple projects in production simultaneously at various stages of completion; ability to juggle short-term and long-term tasks and responsibilities
  • Experience editing/shooting skills with proficiency in Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro a bonus
