Video Growth Manager

Remote (United States)

As Video Growth Lead, you will be joining a highly successful content production team. You will oversee the global video team’s video operations, social media strategy, and growth. You will help the production team reach their annual growth goals.


You will utilize your extensive experience to plan and execute our distribution across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and other platforms. You will lead initiatives to improve our programming based on their best practice, such as optimizing video titles, descriptions, hashtags, use of platform features, and leading our community engagement efforts, use of thumbnails, use of callouts, and more. 


The ideal candidate would have a flair for understanding how social video algorithms work and how content needs to be edited and published in order to be impactful. The ideal candidate would also be a master of social analytics and be able explain why a video did or didn’t perform well, and provide recommendations for improvement. 


This is a really unique position and we welcome candidates from all backgrounds who have a passion for social video, story-telling and video content.


This role will be remote for candidates located in the United States and Canada only. 


Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 4 video growth managers and associates, and oversee the expansion of the team as The Athletic growth its video output
  • Work with the production teams to design and build processes and strategies focused on leveraging video content to drive views and engagement.
  • Oversee everything that goes live across our channels and the processes that lead to publication.
  • Utilize data to inform decisions on how to package content in-product, and how to reach existing and future audiences through our content.
  • Communicate with the production team to proactively identify high-performing content, plan packaging strategy across channels, and provide meaningful feedback on content performance.
  • Drive growth by leveraging content across all social video platforms.
  • Work collaboratively with The Athletic’s production and social teams to identify and win big moments.
  • Support the Senior Executive Producer, Creative Studios in responding to RFPs from the commercial team to help win creative briefs for the company.
  • Own the data tracking for all metrics related to our departmental goals. 


Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience; media owner, publisher, platform or agency.
  • Excellent line management and leadership capabilities. Be a natural leader and be able to develop direct reports.
  • Social video expert, with intimate understanding of how a video should perform on social, and what editing is required to maximize the chance of the video going viral.
  • Excellent understanding of social analytics and video platform algorithms. 
  • Great communicator and leader.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment.
  • Have video editing capabilities.
  • Confident using the full adobe suite with a strong skill set on Photoshop in particular
  • Exceptional copywriting skills for social posts, video descriptions and solid understanding of SEO and tagging tools for platforms.


The annual base salary range for this role is $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
