As Vice President, Total Rewards, you will create and bring to life differentiated reward programs and practices that will power our growth by attracting, motivating and keeping an exceptional and diverse team to propel us as we grow and scale.


What We’re Looking For  

  • Strategic Compensation and Total Rewards leader that applies creativity in building a Total Rewards strategy, roadmap and inclusive practices as our company grows
  • Develop and implement a three-year Executive Compensation strategy aligned with our Executive Compensation philosophy, pay for performance approach and key stakeholders
  • Deliver rewards programs that are differentiated, valued, equitable and give us an edge in attracting & retaining top talent from diverse backgrounds
  • Enable leaders to make great equitable rewards decisions and have productive pay conversations 
  • Build and retain a high performing team
  • Define and apply strong governance practices to our rewards processes to mitigate the biggest risks and demonstrate compliance


Key Competencies:

  • Strategic thinking: Ability to develop and adjust rewards strategy to address movements in the market and business. Inspires imagination by creating a coherent vision out of messy issues. Able to lead with a clear, compelling vision for the Total Rewards team.
  • Communication skills: Able to effectively communicate what we are doing and why we are doing it. Strong executive presence with both the ability and credibility to present ideas and recommendations at all levels within the organization and to the Board of Directors.
  • Analytical skills: Able to distill data down to key information that enables great decision-making.
  • Project Management: Project management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to navigate in a fast-paced & performance-oriented environment.
  • Business acumen: Understands how our business works, knowledgeable in current and future practices, policies, trends and relevant technology. Grasps complexities and connections among problems or issues, able to prioritize elements that will most drive AppFolio success.
  • Discretion & Confidentiality: Ability to exercise discretion, judgment, tact and poise in handling highly sensitive and confidential information. 
  • Urgency: Inclination and ability to accomplish goals much faster than normally expected
  • Consulting/Influencing: Highly curious and ability to influence leaders without rules.
  • Process management/leveraging technology: Ability to refine and navigate processes with high data integrity and a metrics-driven approach. Evaluates and recommends new tools/technology changes as necessary. 
  • Dot Connector: Thoughtfully considers how events, challenges, new information and decisions may impact or connect to others and seizes the opportunity to join the associated people and teams. Consistently ensures that cross-functional partners and the voice of the customer are represented in the design and delivery of people practices.


Key Attributes:

  • 7+ years in a Compensation/Total Rewards leadership, leading a team of 5+ people
  • Experience creating the strategy around a total rewards/compensation program in a high tech or SAAS company is preferred
  • Track record of regular interaction with senior-level executives and driving company-wide initiatives
  • Strong relationship builder, who thrives in a fast paced, collaborative environment
