Vice President of People

Remote (United States) San Francisco, CA

Discord is hiring a Vice President, People to lead our global efforts to onboard, engage, develop and retain our workforce as we scale the company. Reporting to the COO, you will help lead building people functions including People Operations, People Partners, Total Rewards, Learning and Development, and function as a key stakeholder in our Inclusion, Diversity, and Purpose work. Additionally, you will work in a Talent Strategist capacity with leaders across the company to build organizational capabilities that help leaders to develop and retain their teams in a healthy and sustainable way, plus supporting employee engagement strategies, and retaining and scaling the cultural touchstones that make Discord unique.


What you'll be doing
  • Operationalize the Discord DNA. Understand what makes Discord unique as a product, brand, and company and bring that to life through scaled programs for the end-to-end employee experience.
  • Partner with the Executive Team to develop a talent management strategy that supports business objectives and enables operational excellence.
  • Iterate our programs: Manage the development of compensation, performance management, talent development, and learning & development programs. Develop People programs that are creative, transformative, and support the long-term goals and vision of the company. Evolve and deliver diversity and inclusion strategies, programs, and practices in partnership with the leadership team.
  • Partner with the Executive team, Recruiting team, Employee Resource Groups, Inclusion, Diversity, and Purpose (IDP) programs. Strong program design experience is important for success in this role.  
  • Improve efficiency at scale: Design, implement and maintain processes, tools, and systems needed to grow and support people operations while balancing that with a forward-thinking employee experience strategy.  
  • Tell the Discord people story internally and externally; Partner with Marketing and Communications to evolve our employer brand and ensure it reflects Discord's culture and values.

What you should have
  • 10+ years of experience in people operations, organizational development or HR business partnership, with experience in high-growth private or public companies.
  • Extensive people management experience; demonstrated ability to coach, empower, and develop talent and lead efforts cross-functionally and throughout the business.
  • Experience helping teams and organizations grow and evolve; Ability to share meaningful examples of high-impact org design, org strategy, and guiding org capabilities, at scale.   
  • Experience using metrics and analytics to guide program design and strategic decision-making and guidance.
  • Experience with building and leading highly effective people strategies preferably within a growing workforce.
  • Strong point of view on how diversity and inclusion meaningfully contribute to a company's success and experience building development and retention programs for a highly passionate workforce.
