Vice President, Global Biopharma Quality Lead

The BQ organization provides Quality Consulting and Quality Oversight to over 20,000 commercial colleagues across pharmacovigilance, data privacy and promotional practices. This includes:

  • Effective management of current and emerging Commercial Compliance Risk
  • Operationalizing global policies and procedures related to commercial quality
  • Monitoring quality across commercial activities and ensuring audit & inspection readiness
  • Identification and management of quality events
  • Establishing an integrated approach for quality improvement & optimized customer quality experience


ROLE SUMMARY

The Global Biopharma Quality (BQ) Lead oversees developing and leading the overall commercial quality strategy in support of PBG’s business objectives. The role will also advise on all aspects of commercial quality topics and trends, opportunities and internal quality capabilities while leading breakthrough initiatives within the organization. 


The scope of BQ team includes Patient Support Programs, Adverse Reporting Effectiveness, Commercial Privacy, Promotion Effectiveness, IC and Samples quality oversight, Medica Review Services, etc.


As an enterprise leader, the Global Biopharma Quality Lead will develop world class quality talent with a relentless focus on compliantly accelerating commercial innovation and continually improving the experience for our HCPs and Patients around the world. 


This role is the lead interface for BQ, aligning the BQ strategic agenda, scope, value and performance with senior executive level stakeholders ensuring continued sponsorship and alignment with key business priorities.


A key accountability of this role includes managing the global BQ in order to enable BQ’s strategy, execute the operating plan and drive efficiencies whilst maintaining flawless execution of day-to-day services.


The Global Biopharma Quality Lead will:

  • Drive Quality Transformation Initiatives in partnership with the Business Units and enabling partner functions
  • Serve as an exceptional partner to division/functional stakeholders.  Provide quality leadership to drive commercial innovation creating value and superior experiences for HCPs, patients, payers and Pfizer.  Bring forward ideas which influence future enterprise quality investment
  • Develop and Lead Quality strategy focused on commercial outcomes. Oversee the development of cost/benefit business case(s) creation, with input from business sponsors and appropriate Biopharma teams, to meet division/function needs and Bold Move priorities
  • Partner with the division/function stakeholders and appropriate Biopharma Operations groups to manage successful execution of the strategy including quality by design, oversight, audit readiness and business adoption
  • Engage the Pfizer Quality and external ecosystem to understand emerging value creation opportunities
  • Develop a world class, diverse, quality team to drive design and execution of commercial strategies.
  • Maintain high colleague engagement levels and inspire the team to deliver on its bold strategic ambitions to set the industry standard for Commercial Quality.
  • Actively provide thought leadership for commercial quality, promoting BQ value proposition and providing regular insights, as well as represent Pfizer and in appropriate industry forums
  • Contribute to the relevant governance committees to prioritize and manage all Quality demand
  • Oversee annual Biopharma Quality investment/ budget with input from appropriate stakeholders.
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders on experimentation and scale solutions across geographies as appropriate.


ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Accountable for:

Stakeholder engagement

  • Define and drive Biopharma Quality strategy for the organization.  Partnering with Biopharma leadership teams, business unit leaders, and the various Biopharma teams, this role will lead and support business case development in support of the Quality strategy, focused on measurable outcomes, to ensure consistent and value add partnership with Biopharma, Safety, Compliance, Legal, Medical and other stakeholders.
  • Represent and articulate all Quality capabilities and services consumed by Biopharma business and partners. 
  • Provide thought leadership to drive the organization to continuously improve operations. 
  • Proactively manage issues as they arise to minimize impact to Biopharma objectives.
  • Represent Biopharma Ops on appropriate global governance and decision-making meeting bodies (e.g., CQCC, RMF)
  • Collaborate with the broader Biopharma Ops community, Pfizer’s R&D/Medical and PGS quality and compliance related committees to exchange best practices and lessons learned
  • As a member of Biopharma Ops LT ensure BQ remains embedded and aligned with business priorities
  • Support the Biopharma Ops LT in the implementation of pan-Biopharma continuous improvement opportunities
  • Use external networks to share thought leadership and apply external best practice in BQ and Biopharma
  • Represent Pfizer and BQ in appropriate industry forums


Important for candidate to demonstrate:

  • Robust understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare ecosystem; specifically commercial business processes, pharmacovigilance, audit requirements, privacy and promotional practices, quality management, and the digital capabilities which support those activities
  • Ability to lead team to design and implement effective BQ governance framework
  • Sponsor creative commercial quality solutions that provide opportunities for the Biopharma business to adopt new and innovative technologies
  • Ability to articulate impact to multiple executive audiences; including those less familiar with the biopharma business
  • Contribute to the development of organizational knowledge management processes/systems​
  • Demonstrated experience leading innovation in unchartered territories and calculated risk taking
  • Strong people management skills ensuring colleagues are motivated to deliver their best work and feel safe to express views and opinions


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's or Bachelor’s degree in Sciences and/or MBA
  • 20+ years of team leadership experience; preferably senior level management roles. 10+ plus years of experience leading complex global projects
  • Understand the fundamentals of the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on pharmacovigilance, privacy and promotional activities
  • Proven track record of developing and driving commercial operations strategies in support of high performing commercial organizations
  • Demonstrated acumen in relationship management, stakeholder management and influencing executive leadership
  • Experience in leading Global/Regional high performing teams, including geographically distributed direct reports and matrix management
  • Experience in implementation of enterprise global initiatives and leading change.
  • Hands-on experience of operating in a regulated environment
  • Financial management and Project management

  • Proven track record in building compelling and data driven business cases and leading complex global projects
  • Experience in quality management roles
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Experienced change management advocate
  • Track record of success and experience in development and execution of strategies which drive operational and financial performance
