DJ is seeking a sales professional with experience in the higher education market to join our Student Memberships sales team. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, managing and overseeing the sales strategy primarily for the Wall Street Journal at colleges and universities in the US.


The ideal candidate should be strategic and forward-looking, have an entrepreneurial spirit, be creative, self-motivated and possess a quantifiable record of success with a demonstrated ability to meet and exceed goals. A strong interest in media and applications to learning is important.


Key Responsibilities

  • LEAD: Set the tone, strategy and goals for a remote sales team to ensure they are working collaboratively and efficiently to meet business results
  • GUIDE: Day-to-day activities for assigned account managers, including helping with sales strategy, proposals and territory sales strategies.
  • INNOVATE: Bring knowledge of digital sales enablement solutions to ensure lead generation efforts are robust and set the sales team up for success.
  • MEET NEW BUSINESS TARGETS: Generate new streams of revenue and WSJ membership through sales of products and services to "new to company" prospects
  • RECRUIT AND TRAIN: Identify, hire, and train new account managers as necessary.
  • ANALYZE OPPORTUNITIES: Understand the market to identify key targets, trends that impact sales and business issues affecting target schools, then ensure that the sales team is armed with this knowledge and it is the foundation for our communications with prospects
  • PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE: Clearly express the value proposition and benefits of the Dow Jones products and solutions, and use this knowledge to ensure that solutions address clear business needs for the prospect
  • FORECAST: Manage Sales Forecast and Pipeline to ensure accurate recording of prospecting activity, conversion success, active sales opportunities at each stage of the sales process and forthcoming new business revenue
  • MANAGE PROSPECT/CLIENT INFORMATION: Keep accurate and clear records within the global CRM system to provide a solid deal history, showing clearly the steps taken to reach closure on new business deals


Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of sales experience with a demonstrated track record of over-achievement
  • Understanding of and experience in the U.S. college and university market.
  • Experience with leading a sales team and providing consultative support to move challenging deals to closure
  • Proven ability to develop and initiate strategies for revenue and account growth
  • Build, maintain, and effectively manage a healthy sales pipeline and accurately forecast sales results
  • High level of business awareness to help build credibility with the prospect, spot potential opportunities, and express the benefits of Dow Jones in the appropriate business context
  • Strong negotiation and closing skills to build a solid and persuasive business case, overcome objections, use solid supporting information where necessary, and ensure sales opportunities are managed to a successful conclusion
  • Able to multitask effectively and work with a strong sense of urgency
  • Good communication skills (listening, questioning, written and verbal) to ensure the Dow Jones value position is clearly articulated to prospects and a persuasive business case is presented in email and verbal communications
  • Strong technology skills for online and on-site presentations to prospects and customers
  • Able to multitask effectively and work with a strong sense of urgency
  • College degree (or equivalent), preferably in communications, or a business discipline.
