Tax Provision Manager

Microsoft Tax & Customs Department is currently looking for a Tax Provision Manager. In this role, the Tax Provision Manager will be responsible for Worldwide Tax & Customs Reporting, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process & innovation functions to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and Customs functions.


There are four major functions within the Tax and Customs Department:

  • Tax Reporting and Transfer Pricing
  • Customs, Tax Process & Innovation,
  • Corporate Tax Planning & Controversies, Indirect Tax & Global Business Initiatives
  • Tax & Customs Controllership, Policy and Benefits Taxation


Responsibilities

  • Prepare Microsoft’s United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) income tax accounting models including deferred accounting, payable accounting, tax account roll-forward, and return-to-provision true-up.
  • Provide support with building the processes and calendar to ensure a smooth connection among accounting, tax compliance and tax accounting functions
  • Build excellent audit files for financial statement audits
  • Provide audit support to the Tax Controversies group for issues related to US income tax positions and filings
  • Accountability for maintenance and compliance of key Sarbanes-Oxley(SOX) controls related to United States tax accounting
  • Scrutinize, challenge, and propose changes to existing processes and procedures
  • Keep up to date with tax legislation, SEC Regulations, and United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles(GAAP) changes, practice and global developments

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 4+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
  • OR Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 4+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field AND 5+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience 
  • OR Master's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Tax, Law, or related field 5+ years of direct and indirect tax compliance, tax returns, tax accounting, or tax audit management experience
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Master of Laws (LLM), or similar certification.
  • Deep hands-on expert experience with accounting standard modeling 
  • Hands-on experience with US and US international corporate income tax
  • Database and desktop application ability 
  • Project management skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate effectively with team members and business stakeholders
  • Exhibit analytical thinking, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent prioritization and organizational skills
  • Certified Public Accounting certification
  • Previous experience in corporate tax department
  • Previous experience in Big 4 (Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) corporate tax practices

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

 

Tax IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $72,800 - $144,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $95,100 - $157,900 per year.
