Talent Manager

Chicago, IL

The Talent Manager partners with the Actuarial business leadership and Human Resources colleagues to support the population on all Talent Management related activities. Such activities include employee engagement, performance management coordination and oversight, training and development, program, policy and procedure development and/or implementation, compensation administration and implementation.


Key Responsibilities:

Office Morale and Employee Engagement

  • Partner with office leadership to help build and maintain a strong community in an inclusive and positive office environment.
  • Pro-actively support firm-wide efforts to help maintain a highly engaged workforce.
  • Contribute to and support development of programs designed to create strong commitment and participation in office events and activities.
  • Serve as a role model to all employees, exemplifying Oliver Wyman Values.
  • Deliver monthly talent management overview to all new joiners


Performance Management

  • Develop and manage Actuarial competency models and annual performance management process.
  • Coach and advise managers through the performance review process.
  • Support employees before and after performance review discussions, as needed.
  • Contribute to various talent discussions that are had with talent reviews, career pathing/professional development frameworks and follow-ups.
  • Advise and counsel managers on actions to take when an employee’s performance standards are below expectations.
  • Manage out-counsel process in conjunction with HR Director and Practice leadership.
  • Demonstrate capability in using enterprise resource management tools and performance systems


Retention and Recruiting

  • Partner with Actuarial leaders to research, develop, design and implement talent retention and career development strategies.
  • Develop/modify position descriptions in partnership with Recruiting. Ensure all roles are documented. 


Training and Development

  • Partner with leadership team to identify, develop and coordinate career development training programs.
  • Partner with OW Learning & Development on content development, training delivery, and managing online learning platforms.
  • Create individual training plans, within budget, incorporating feedback from employees and leadership.
  • Source, review, translate and integrate any relevant training materials/tools provided by Oliver Wyman.


Compensation

  • Review and maintain the compensation philosophy and ensure that benchmarks are reviewed and updated on a regular basis or as needed.


Support Professional Champion

  • Act as support professional champion, promoting improvement of the support value proposition and culture that will attract, motivate, develop and retain exceptional support professionals.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Human Resources Manager/Generalist, Recruiting and MMC/OW as needed.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Create and issue employee communications as required.
  • Ad hoc analyses and reporting as needed
  • Responsible for ensuring manager and matrix manager information is accurate in Workday


Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with five plus years of human resources experience required, preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Three years leadership experience - leading projects and/or teams, facilitating discussions, coaching clients, mentoring more junior HR colleagues, and advocating for policy or other initiatives.
  • HR Certification is a plus

  • Creative, strategic forward thinker, who continually seeks ways to improve the way things are done
  • Results/solution oriented
  • Mergers and acquisitions experience preferred
  • Current knowledge of employment law and practices


Technical Skills:

  • Maintains knowledge of trends and changes in Human Resources legislation, and conveys local, state, and federal laws where appropriate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Experience with Workday is a plus
