Sustainability Specialist

UCF Utilities & Energy Services is seeking well qualified candidates to apply for the role of Sustainability Specialist II. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for high-level university quarterly and annual sustainability reports and constituent updates for campus stakeholders, including administration, trustees, governors, and applicable executive orders from US Department of Energy.
  • Lead F&BO in defining goals, performance metrics, and long-range plans for sustainability initiatives at UCF. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, document performance trends, and recommend and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement educational programming to cultivate sustainability literacy on campus, including seminars, conferences, workshops, documentary screenings, fairs, and other activities geared towards achieving buy-in and habit transformation among stakeholders.
  • Represent UCF’s sustainability programs to the university; maintain liaison with groups, programs, offices, departments, professional societies, and the public to achieve sustainability objectives.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in public relations activities to include preparing and supervising the SI website, social media outlets, brochures, newsletters and other promotional materials or publications, drafting press releases, designing ads and fliers, and responding to inquiries; develop plans and schedules for release of publicity materials.
  • Encourage and facilitate sustainability programs initiated by students, faculty, staff, and community members. Foster and coordinate new ideas and concepts for sustainability programming themes and identify materials and resources to supplement, expand, or replace existing sustainability programming.
  • Research and maintain a working knowledge of best practices at peer institutions with regards to sustainability.
  • Assist in preparing budgets. Monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds as appropriate.
  • Advertise, solicit, and screen applications for grant funds. Oversee the execution of projects receiving grants. Publicize the results of granted projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of sustainability theory and practices.
  • Ability to operate most Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience in a university setting.
