Sustainability Program Manager

Boston, MA

The Sustainability Program Manager will be a key member of the MassMutual Global Sustainability Team, reporting to the Global Head of Sustainability. This is a highly cross-functional role that will collaborate with a team of MassMutual stakeholders through vision-setting, strategy development, implementation and reporting. This individual will perform coordination, communications, and analytical work to execute the ESG strategy and integrate sustainable practices within the company’s business model. 


The Team

The MassMutual Global Sustainability Team is responsibility for the development and deployment of MassMutual’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, roadmaps, goals, policies and initiatives that support the company’s business strategies, reflect our value and support the communities where we do business.


The Impact

  • Support the development and deployment of MassMutual’s ESG Strategy. Work with business unit ESG leaders on implementation of key programs, as well as developing pathways to Net Zero operations by 2030 and Net Zero investment portfolio by 2050.
  • In collaboration with the team, develop appropriate goals, metrics and process for measuring the company’s performance with respect to ESG across the company.
  • Lead projects to strengthen MassMutual’s environmental and social impacts.
  • Prepare reports, communications, and training on MassMutual's ESG performance, support internal and external inquiries concerning ESG topics, and manage annual public sustainability reporting.
  • Lead data systems integration of ESG and other company data to drive greater insight.
  • Support MassMutual’s ESG-related employee engagement strategy and communications.
  • Coordinate planning, meetings, flow of materials, and data.
  • Research, offer recommendations, and take action to address emerging ESG issues, standards, and best practices.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience in related fields in a global organization.


Qualifications

  • Understanding of ESG principles, issues and the methods with which sustainability can be integrated into business operations including investment decisions.
  • Broad knowledge of diverse ESG topics, including ESG reporting, climate change, Science Based Targets, carbon accounting, sustainable investing, and sustainable financing.
  • Experience with major ESG reporting frameworks such as PRI, TCFD, SASB, GRI, and CDP, etc.
  • Understanding of and experience with ESG assessments and ratings (MSCI, ISS, Sustainalytics).
  • Demonstrated strong project/program management skills and experience working with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams. Strong stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to navigate a complex stakeholder landscape and build effective relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Be able to prioritize, multitask and deliver high-quality work in tight timeframes, strong attention to details.
  • Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze and synthesize data, establish metrics, set goals, identify gaps and opportunities, develop insights, translate data into information and develop business cases.
  • Advanced verbal/written communications and presentation skills, the ability to articulate and communicate complex investment and ESG concepts into simple terms clearly and succinctly, as well as the ability to educate, persuade and inspire people into action.
  • Ability to work independently with ambiguity to drive solutions, think strategically and innovatively.
  • A consummate team player with impeccable ethics and integrity.
