Sustainability Manager

New York City, NY

We are hiring a Nespresso Sustainability Program Manager who will drive and implement Nespresso’s environmental strategy.


A Day in the Life:

Recycling

  • Develop, implement, and monitor company or organizational environmental strategies and enhance environmental programs including: Boutiques, Boutique-Bar, Point of Sales, Events, Service Partners, Warehouses and Offices.
  • Drive the Positive Cup strategy in the market.
  • Conduct Life Cycle Assessments and external Audit of recycling to make positive changes.
  • Continue to enhance program for collection & recycling of capsules to ensure recycling % increase and 100% capacity and continue to look for program efficiencies to drive down cost per capsule.                                           
  •  Liaise with Logistics and Supply Chain, Procurement to improve recycling rate and decrease costs.


Carbon Reduction

  • Find opportunities to cut environmental impacts as well as saving costs.
  • Evaluate and find best environmental solutions to reduce, reuse, refurbish or recycle Nespresso coffee machines and evaluate cost.
  • Evaluate packaging and come up with innovative solutions to reduce waste.
  • Ensure reduction of CO² emission through ecological responsible actions throughout the company.
  • Evaluate possibility for LEED certification for standalone Boutiques, or to buy green energy, or any other idea to reduce carbon impact.


Municipal Recycling Program

  • Drive municipal recycling program with local Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) to have capsules accepted in major key cities within the USA. Work closely with consultant to achieve targets as per business plan.
  • Assist in material flow analysis, search for equipment solutions, and build relationships with MRFs.
  • Build cost benefit model for curbside collection versus mail-back program and ensure cost savings are achieved.
  • Assist in industry coalition formation, planning, and communications strategy. Participate in industry coalition launch committee and roundtable.


Environment, Quality and Safety Audits 

  • Support environment, quality and safety programs and regulations. 
  • Help the internal and external audits to carried out.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Degree in Environmental/Sustainability Studies, Technical or Engineering, required.


Winning Experience:                                                                                          

  • 4+ years of experience in roles with expertise in Environmental/Sustainability, Technical or Engineering, required.                       
  • Management exposure across several functions.
  • Sustainability / Environmental knowledge
  • Proven track record in delivering results by working with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead projects and change management.
  • Demonstrated management capability including ability to lead, coach, engage and influence.
  • Experience leading/managing a team a plus.
