Sustainability Engineer

San Diego, CA

Philips is the leader in image-guided therapy, providing integrated solutions that advance minimally invasive procedures. We help healthcare providers to decide, guide, treat and confirm the right care in real time during the procedure to enable better outcomes for each patient and at population level.


As a Sustainability professional, you will work alongside R&D Engineers to implement green practices and to help organizations minimize the negative environmental impact of their operations.

Company relocation benefits will not be provided for this position. Candidates need to live within commuting distance to the San Diego location.


You are responsible for

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) teams by developing sustainability project goals, objectives, initiatives and strategies
  • Perform product compliance review of regulatory, technical, or market issues related to sustainability
  • Participate in identifying new sustainability indicators and lead plans related to sustainability projects
  • To develop reports or presentations to communicate the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives
  • To carry out sustainability initiatives, considering factors such as cost effectiveness, technical feasibility and acceptance
  • To monitor and track sustainability indicators, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling
  • Assist in development and assurance of compliance of sustainability program

To succeed in this role, you should have the following capabilities, competencies, and experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science or technical field
  • 2+ years of experience working in medical device or pharmaceutical industry required
  • Experience working within R&D teams
  • Technical understanding of environmental product requirements, UMDR, Conflict Minerals and CA Proposition 65
  • Understanding of design controls
  • Experience working in a cross functional environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
