Sustainability Development Manager

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Sustainability Development Manager - Americas, are to: 

 

  • Analyze sustainability expectations of key America's stakeholders and contribute to define Regional end user needs, trends, opportunities and key issues in collaboration with Competitive Intelligence, Marketing, key countries and further internal stakeholders;
  • Contribute actively to the Global mapping of stakeholders by identifying and mapping key regional/local stakeholders by key segments and key countries in close collaboration with Regional Stakeholder Affairs Manager, Regional and Local Market Managers, Regulatory Affairs, Communication, Marketing, Development, Sustainability Development and Stewardship teams to support the strategic objectives of top line growth and profitability;
  • Promote industry leading best practices and advocate Bayer Environmental Sciences (ES) Sustainability Development (SD) positioning wherever and whenever needed, including tradeassociations;
  • Develop appropriate tools to monitor stakeholders' activities;
  • Identify new strategic regional levers for License To Operate (LTO) messaging in Professional Pest Management (PPM), Turf, Industrial Vegetation Management (IVM) and Forestry to support the Global Positioning of ES SD policy;
  • Contribute to build Global policy papers on key regional America's SD issues together with Communications, Regulatory and other relevant functions based on ES’/Bayer position and ensure use across all relevant functions within ES, CS and Bayer to strengthen "one-voice policy";
  • Share responsibility (in agreement with the Regional Stakeholder Affairs Manager) and represent ES at key stakeholder Regional non-crop industry events in close alignment with the Regions, Marketing and Communications;
  • Prepare community members for representative activities, target audiences, include industry and research associations, Food Industry representatives, NGOs and UN organizations;
  • Achieve successfully Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of packaging, formulants as required;
  • Contribute within the SD team to eco-design purposes and eco-rating;
  • Keep highest level of understanding of the evolution of LC methodologies and tools by connecting with the LCA expert of the SD team and analyzing competitors’ behaviors for the Area of Commercial Operations (ACO) Americas;
  • Manage the SD component of the SKU creation process for the Americas;
  • Influence global / country marketing managers to develop the most environmentally appropriated solution for Americas to be launched by highlighting the key differentiating SD benefits;
  • Ensure success of on-going projects, time to market and value creation of new products;
  • Ensure environmental based innovation;
  • Contribute to ES License to Operate activities by engaging selected stakeholders as well contributing to strengthen company reputation;
  • Represent ES at key SD’s forum and promoting SD within ES organization;
  • Ensure consistent positioning and messaging on identified hot topics;
  • Support crisis management activities;
  • Contribute to the SD team in proposing new idea to value the differentiating positioning versus competitors.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business and /or Sciences with at least 5 years or relevant experience;
  • Specific education in Product Environmental Management or Industrial Ecology;
  • Ability to operate in a complex environment both in technical, political and societal area;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, particularly presentation skills, persuasion and negotiation skills;
  • Excellence and confidence in English;
  • High degree of organization, flexibility and adaptability;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to gain the trust of people inside and outside the organization;
  • Excellent Project management skills ensuring that projects are driven to rapid and successful conclusion;
  • Customer service mentality ensuring a rapid and thoughtful response to all enquiries, problems and events;
  • Ability to travel 20-25% of work time;
  • Multicultural skills to work on a Pan-America environment.
