Sustainability Analyst

The Sustainability Research Analyst is part of the Global Sustainability function in MetLife Corporate Affairs. The Sustainability Research Analyst is responsible for supporting successful implementation of strategies, initiatives and programs that ensure the company will meet its sustainability-goals and commitments.  

 

This position will lead implementation of key projects, serve on cross-functional teams, coordinate across the organization, and communicate with key internal stakeholders. The position will help support successful implementation of MetLife’s sustainability strategies, associated programs and goals across our company including all departments, and geographies including the company’s operations in 40+ countries around the world.

 

This role will lead research and benchmarking on sustainability best practices and have direct involvement with implementation of MetLife’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, non-financial reporting, and employee-directed sustainability initiatives. In addition, this role will lead efforts to help ensure that MetLife’s ESG ratings and rankings are maintained. The person is expected to communicate effectively with leaders at all levels, across all departments, and ultimately deliver value across our global organization.

Key responsibilities include conducting research and benchmarking best practices and peer efforts; leading projects, initiatives, cross-functional teams; establishing strategies for successful integration of sustainability across the MetLife enterprise, local markets and functions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct benchmarking, competitive analysis, to ensure the company is apprised of emerging sustainability issues, best practices, peer efforts, etc.; Spearhead research and provide analytical insight to help support the organizational direction of MetLife’s sustainability strategies.
  • Lead efforts to maximize MetLife’s performance on public sustainability rankings and ESG investor benchmarks/indices. Work across the organization to identify, gather and confirm publicly available ESG/Sustainability policies and efforts. Identify gaps and opportunities regarding MetLife’s ESG scores and work with key internal stakeholders to enhance public reporting; Respond to industry surveys and inquiries including MSCI, Dow Jones, Sustainalytics, ISS, and others.
  • Ensure MetLife is effectively communicating our sustainability story to key stakeholders by managing and improving the digital experience of our website (MetLife.com/Sustainability).
  • Support efforts to gain external recognition for sustainability commitments, efforts initiatives, and actions. Develop and submit awards nominations and identify ways to enhance the MetLife Brand
  • Help implement efforts to achieve MetLife’s climate goals – including the 2030 and Net Zero commitments, supply chain programs, carbon footprint efforts, green and healthy building certifications.
  • Increase stakeholder engagement on environmental and broader sustainability initiatives through development and execution of employee, customer, and community engagement campaigns and events.
  • Establish approaches for management of large-scale ongoing projects and lead project management efforts. Assist with vendor management and onboarding. Support development of assets and materials for senior level meetings, employee education programs, stakeholder engagements.
  • Support all aspects of the development of MetLife’s annual sustainability report.

 

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 2 years of experience working on sustainability, environmental, CSR, ESG issues, communications, marketing, public relations, program management, or corporate affairs, broadly.
  • Sustainability, Sustainable Business, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Experience in Project Management, Sustainability, CSR, Public Affairs, Data Analysis, Communications and/or Marketing role.
  • Experience implementing environmental sustainability programs, initiatives and stakeholder engagement campaigns 
  • Knowledge of sustainability standards, tools, and reporting mechanisms (ex. GHG Protocol, SBTi, CDP, GRI, SASB, etc.), and emerging practices (ex. FSB TCFD, UN Sustainable Development Goals, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion commitments, etc.)
  • Knowledge and interest in climate change, environmental, conservation and sustainability trends
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to track, measure and identify business improvement solutions
  • Data analysis experience along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables etc.) is and experience with MS Access, database management is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and outstanding relationship building skills at all levels of the organization, including senior executives.
  • Strong project management skills, attention to detail.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills – written, oral, PowerPoint/Visual
  • Strong ability to collaborate across the organization and drive a shared agenda that recognizes and supports business needs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree; preference given to degrees in Business, Marketing/Communications, ESG,

The wage range for applicants for this position is $54,200 - $91,300. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
