Surface Design Coordinator

Portland, OR

As our Surface Design Coordinator, you will be a collaborative member of the Apparel Surface Design team who will support production of our seasonal prints and yarn dyes. A passion for textiles combined with strong organizational and process skills, calendar awareness to ensure deadlines are met and a collaborative mindset will allow you hands-on involvement in textile production, design tools and support which reflect Columbia Sportswear’s design ethos of connecting the consumer to their outdoor passions. In this role, you will be responsible for participating in any task needed to shepherd textile artwork from conception to production.


HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • Create print and yarn dye artwork development packages that contain technical specifications.
  • Manage, track and upload new print and yarn dye artwork packages for commercialization.
  • Partner with Apparel Designers, Merchandisers and Materials Research to validate fabric base cloths.
  • Support new textile design assortments and collection concepts with needed tools and support Design Leadership on seasonal strategies and execution.
  • Collaborate with Textile and Color Designers to create digital documents and boards of print, yarn dye, and color assets and collection colorways for review by the product creation team.


YOU ARE 

  • Productive in time management and demonstrate process discipline for surface design projects in order to ensure effective and efficient transfer of information at key gates and dates.
  • A problem solver: able to troubleshoot, design, coordinate and perform special task/projects simultaneously, and work effectively under pressure.
  • An effective communicator and can conduct complex interpersonal interactions with employees and customers


YOU HAVE 

  • Bachelor’s degree, applicable certification or equivalent experience specializing in textile art production, fabric arts, apparel design, graphic design or related field
  • Associates degree with 2-3 years related work experience acceptable in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
  • One to two years’ experience in production design and/or apparel industry.
  • Knowledge of computer software including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
