Supervisor, Technical Training

Livermore, CA

This position will ensure that PG&E Academy's technical training programs are delivered with the highest level of safety and performance standards, training all employees to competence and in compliance with PG&E’s standards, procedures, and Instructor Excellence guidelines. The Technical Training Supervisor will oversee and support aspects of the Apprentice Line Worker apprenticeship, the Journey Line Worker program, and the execution of the hiring events for those programs. The role manages a team of Instructors that deliver Electric technical training to PG&E's workforce in a manner that allows the workforce to perform their jobs safely and efficiently. The Supervisor will also manage 1-3 Learning and Development Operations Support personnel who assist in setting up classes, provide technical support, scheduling classes, tracking course completions, and a variety of other tasks for many different programs. Building familiarity with the curriculum for each program, assisting with Curriculum Development within the Academy, developing staff members, partnering with the Line of Business Sponsors, working closely with Recruiting, engaging with Field Training Coordinators, and integrating with the Joint Apprentice Training Committee will be key functions for success. This position may travel 20% through PG&E's Service territory.


Job Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop team members to reach team and individual goals and strengthen core competencies.
  • Coach technical instructors to set expectations around what best in industry training delivery looks like and work to improve overall skill set.
  • Effectively recognize risk associated to issue presented by team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Analyze, recommend, or implement solutions.
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain strong working relationships with line of business (LOB) Superintendents and Supervisors, IBEW Leaders, and Academy team members to work collaboratively on identifying training and performance requirements and advising on learning solutions aligned with those requirements.
  • Interface with clients for course and training material feedback. Sit in classes to audit delivery content and evaluate delivery effectiveness. Make suggestions for improvements and changes to curriculum working with Curriculum Development.
  • Plan, establish and maintain scheduling in conjunction with operations partners to maximize instructor booking efficiency and quality, adhere to budget and achieve results-driven learning solution goal.
  • Works closely with Academy Management, line of business leadership, project managers, information systems technology services (ISTS) teams, and PG&E Academy curriculum development, and operations teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of PG&E learning solutions that meet our company's goals and needs.


Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years’ experience as a journey-level experience in respective trade or equivalent experience
  • 3 years’ experience in technical training, job-related expertise


Desired:

  • Prior experience teaching apprentices both on the job and in the classroom
  • 5 years’ experience Electric Utility Industry Experience
  • College degree in engineering or technical discipline
  • Prior Supervisory experience
  • Process and Continuous Improvement experience
  • Project Management experience
  • CompTIA – Computing Technology Industry Association CTT – Certified Technical Trainer certification or equivalent
