THE TEAM

Accounting keeps the agency running.

We're looking for a staff accountant to join us and keep us focused on the joy and value we add to an agency focused on impacting culture.

This role will report to an accounting supervisor.

YOUR IMPACT

  • You’ll gain exposure to the principle of revenue recognition. You’ll come to understand the journey of financials, the relationship between revenue and expenses, and how we manage that process to tell accurate stories around profitability and costs.
  • You’ll assist in the financial operations. You’ll become intimately familiar with our clients and their financials, reviewing client estimates and service agreements to make sure compensation language is accurate and preparing accurate quarterly budget reports. You’ll work with the different business groups to make sure billing is accurate, and help with forecasting future revenue. Assistance will include, but not be limited to, helping with month-end closing procedures; preparing, analyzing and maintaining various client-related assets such as staffing plans to help develop service agreement fees; creating profitability reports and revenue recognition reporting documentation; and prepping time vs. fee reports based on time data and sales ledgers.
  • You’ll support our accounting team, allowing us to be more analytical and nimble. We touch a lot and are responsible for a lot, and this is where your heart for teamwork will come into play. You’ll be a hub of communication and process, allowing us to work with impact and efficiency.
  • You’ll grow relationships across departments with some of the most ambitious people in the industry. From account leadership, financial affairs and other department staff, you’ll have the chance to know and develop great working dynamics with some treasured teammates as you learn more about their clients' accounting.

YOU HAVE

  • Proven experience in an accounting, finance and/or auditing role (1-2 years is a good marker, and internship experience counts!)
  • A degree in accounting or finance
  • An understanding of account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and general accounting functions
  • Comfortability with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and the ability to quickly learn new accounting software programs

YOU ARE

  • Calm under pressure
  • A team collaborator and contributor
  • A natural problem-solver and have learned to manage your time
  • Sensitive to deadlines
  • Highly organized, and able to prioritize your workload
  • Trustworthy, and can work professionally with highly-sensitive information

IS THIS ROLE NOT QUITE A MATCH?

Does this role pique your interest but feel a lil' out of reach, or misaligned with your unique experience? Still reach out! Your story might capture our attention.

WHO WE ARE

Martin is home to over 300 makers, thinkers, problem-solvers, dreamers and believers. People whose jobs are just as interesting as they are. We’re an agency that values the candid, the curious, and the fiery. People who put their hearts first and win because of it. These are the principles we put our confidence in, and how we give our clients and our people — those here and on their way to us — a way to be seen. Invisibility is our nemesis. For our clients and for our people, we make space for all to be valued, to be celebrated, and to exist beyond the noise.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that when you impact culture, you impact sales. It’s that simple. Buzz is our business metric. We’ve created steady buzz for brands like Buffalo Wild Wings, CarMax, DoorDash, GEICO, Old Navy, OREO and UPS, to name a few. And we’ve been doing it a long time. Virginia is for Lovers? It's one of the most recognized taglines in the tourism industry and beyond. We wrote it in 1969.

We believe in fighting invisibility. This is the radical pursuit of our people and keeping them at the center, investing in and building safe, strong community; pouring into holistic wellbeing; and fostering an environment of maximum contribution, so that they can focus only on doing the best work of their lives.

HOW WE MAKE SPACE

The Martin Agency is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We are committed to creating a place of belonging — a space where employees do not need to sacrifice who they are to exist and grow in our workplace. The Martin Agency does not discriminate on any unlawful basis including race, religion, color, national origin, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or any other basis prohibited by law.
