Specialist Paralegal

Thousand Oaks, CA

The Specialist Paralegal provides clinical contracting support to the global clinical development operations functions of the company. This position drafts and negotiates a variety of clinical contracts, including standard and complex arrangements; as well as reviews and advises on informed consent issues, patient recruitment materials, and other relevant clinical / contracting issues.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Work with minimal direction/supervision to provide legal support on a wide array of clinical contracting issues
  • Provide legal services of comprehensive scope and complexity in a time sensitive environment
  • Draft and negotiate contracts in time sensitive environment
  • Analyze a variety of clinical trial conduct and contracting related issues and recommend resolutions
  • Communicate (written and orally) with internal clients and external parties
  • Develop and support training or cross-training of paralegals and other staff within practice area
  • Manage special projects as assigned
  • Perform research on laws, regulations, and industry developments affecting the development and commercialization of pharmaceutical/biotechnology products, and contracting, as needed
  • Understand and comply with all relevant procedures and policies

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate Degree

OR

Master's Degree and 2 years of legal experience

OR

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of legal experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of legal experience

OR

High School Diploma/GED and 12 years of legal experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program
  • 4+ years of experience in a paralegal role drafting and negotiating contracts
  • Experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, or regulatory law
  • Strong organizational, multitask and prioritization skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple routine matters simultaneously
  • Competency in use of relevant systems and processes
  • Understand and align with all relevant procedures and policies
  • Role model the Amgen values
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience in a variety of database systems
