Software Engineer

Want to apply your software development talents to the challenge of producing cruelty-free meat? Come join Memphis Meats as a Software Engineer in our Data team. You will help build and expand the software systems that manage instruments, data, and knowledge in our labs and beyond. Working directly with scientists, analysts and lab technicians, you will develop software to drive complex workflows, transform large-scale data, and provide smart user interfaces along the way. Your passion for great code and broad knowledge of tools and architecture will be equally important as your excellent communication skills as you work with our team of exceptionally talented people.


Duties include

  • Specifying and writing scripts to perform ETL on laboratory data
  • Creating and refining data schemas for scientific software applications
  • Designing web-based user interfaces to support new functionality
  • Writing reproducible code using software best practices
  • Working closely with scientists and lab technicians to understand needs and requirements
  • Configuration and use of CI/CD systems for managing regular releases of software systems
  • Evaluating new tools, techniques and platforms for lab informatics


About you

  • Strong fluency in Python and/or Java
  • Passion for problem solving, lateral thinking, and shipping excellent software, while taking initiative and working independently
  • Excellent ability to understand the needs of end users and the problem spaces in which they work
  • Hands-on experience with one or more popular application frameworks, such as Django, Spring, Rails, Laravel
  • Understanding of RDBMS principles and database schema concepts and tools
  • Experience with best practices for team-oriented software engineering, including modern CI/CD tools and Agile methodologies


Nice to have

  • Knowledge of cell and molecular biology, and/or prior work in biotech research
  • Previous work with LIMS software and related systems
  • Experience with tools and methods for data science, including R and Tableau
  • Practical knowledge of major AWS services, including RDS and Lambda
  • Experience with front-end UI frameworks, including ReactJS and Typescript
