Social Media Specialist

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Social Media Specialist.


Reporting into the Sr Manager Marketing & Communications, the Social Media Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing the Social Media strategy for our Adult Recreational, Medical, and Corporate brands. Working closely with the Brand and Design teams, the successful candidate will use storytelling and community engagement to connect our brands, our employees, and our audiences across multiple digital channels.


You love to learn and keep up to date on new digital trends, social channels and the cannabis industry. An excellent communicator, you’re a versatile creative writer, and a team player. You will be an active participant in data collection and analyses to consistently improve the company’s social media practices over time. You’re compassionate, curious, determined and have a good sense of humour; which are all important parts of rolling with the challenges of an emerging industry like cannabis.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute social media strategies, guidelines, best practices, promotional campaigns, and day-to-day activities while optimizing brand’s presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms;
  • Building meaningful connections and encouraging community members through authentic engagement and community management;
  • Participate in campaign and event activations with a focus on telling the story;
  • Ensuring a full pipeline of social content for retailer and strategic partners;
  • Establish and foster relationships with online opinion leaders and secure digital media coverage, measuring success along the way;
  • Communicate in multiple brand voices that cover medical, recreational, and corporate content;
  • Work closely with the Brand and legal teams to ensure regulatory compliance at every step;
  • Own daily engagement via our digital and social channels including review management;
  • Managing feedback from social/digital channels and creating a funnel to inform product development and Brand Managers;
  • Creating organic reach within targeted cannabis communities;
  • Supporting the communications strategy by identifying the key content needed on our digital platforms;
  • Identify industry trends using social listening and translate them into business actions and communications for our organization;
  • Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders;
  • Stay abreast of key industry trends, competitive insights and emerging social media/marketing/e-commerce;
  • Constantly explore and evaluate new social platforms, tools, services and vendors and provide recommendations;
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or other relevant discipline;
  • Minimum of four years progressive related experience in communications working with social media and digital content;
  • Thorough understanding of the marketing space, specifically digital;
  • Demonstrable experience in Public Affairs and community development;
  • Proficient in the use of Social/Media Platforms (Meltwater, Later) and project management software (Microsoft Planner, Teams, Project) is an advantage;
  • Comfortable working independently and within small multi-departmental groups;
  • Strong inter-personal skills;
  • Passion for developing content and providing customer service;
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills;
  • Well organized and detailed oriented;
  • Prior experience in creating and editing photography and videography is an asset;
  • Bilingual (English & French) would be considered an asset.
