Social Media Content & Community Manager

Chicago, IL +2

We are looking for an experienced, creative and passionate Social Media Content & Community Manager to join our Mars Global External Communications Team. You’ll report to the Director of Digital and Social Media Communications. You will collaborate closely with our earned media team, business units (segments), and functional experts to inform, create and execute creative social media content to build a positive reputation for Mars worldwide. You will support the strategy for how we approach our social media content calendar and creative, and you will execute our ongoing drumbeat of social media content across our Mars Global social media channels. You’ll serve as an idea-driven conceptual thinker who excels at building brand equity by building creative, engaging social media solutions that build our company reputation.


What will be your key responsibilities? 

  • Act as our in-house social media content expert, plugged into the latest social media trends, managing day-to-day content for @MarsGlobal across platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
  • Develop on-brand, on-strategy, on-time, and on-budget creative content across various mediums to bolster Mars' corporate reputation.
  • Manage the evolving content calendar for our social media and external communications team, incorporating incoming stories, earned media opportunities and senior leader engagements.
  • Handle incoming opportunistic social and digital content requests from across the organization.
  • Juggle multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously while ensuring timely delivery.
  • Manage production timelines and creative reviews, incorporating feedback as needed.
  • Support global campaign execution on social media, collaborating with internal teams, markets, segments, and the Mars brand team.
  • Foster connections with key stakeholders in markets and segments to amplify stories on social media and mars.com aligning with Mars, Incorporated's reputation objectives.
  • Develop, manage, and utilize social media evergreen templates across platforms, including collaborating with creative agencies for design.
  • Write blogs, articles, and social media content as needed, even under tight deadlines.
  • Stay consistently engaged as social media demands constant attention, including collaborating with agency partners to manage incoming comments and posts.
  • Collaborate with the mars.com content team to integrate announcements and content opportunities across platforms.
  • Work with team members responsible for senior leader visible leadership programming on their social media profiles.
  • Proactively solve problems with passion, enthusiasm, and innovation, contributing positively to the team and organization.
  • Support proactive and reactive issues management, including tracking incoming comments on social media channels.
  • Contribute to external communications measurement, campaign, and quarterly reporting to ensure actionable insights for continuous improvement.


What are we looking for? 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Communications, Journalism, Content creation and design or related field strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in digital with marketing agencies, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and/or digital tech organizations (preferred)
  • Experience working in a global role within a multi-national organization building corporate reputation (preferred)
  • Self-starter – who can work independently and within a matrixed organization and cross-functional teams and partners
  • Experience in the development and execution of creative across social media, web and paid media channels
  • Deep knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and other emerging social media platforms
  • Deep insights into social media landscape, quick and responsive to social trends and hot topics, able to capture the moments into creative ideas under branding guidelines
  • Excellent understanding of how to measure social media and digital KPIs
  • Knowledge and experience implementing paid social. Experience with paid search and search engine marketing (SEM) programs a plus
  • Outstanding writing skills (social media & long-form digital content) with strong attention to detail, grammar, and tone across social media and digital platforms. Experience writing for SEO a plus.
  • Expertise using content creation platforms such as Canva to create social media templates, videos, GIFs etc.
  • Ability to drive and execute content across a diverse and broad range of subject matters, sensitive topics, issues and situations
  • Strong project management and multitasking abilities, ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Agency management experience

  • Communicates effectively, written communication for digital channels, social media and long-form
  • Expert knowledge of creative programs, such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite software applications
  • Strong project management knowledge
