Shop Manager

Yamhill, OR

Qualified individual will be responsible for all equipment, building maintenance and repair shops at Bailey West Coast Divisions. Direct a preventative maintenance program with emphasis on consistency and efficiency across shops. Develop and monitor shop budgets and expenses. Maintain close working relationships with vendors to maximize purchasing power, service, quality, and fiscal responsibilities. Will have direct involvement with capital purchases, research and development projects that involve large construction, machinery, automobiles, electric work and other technical and/or large investment projects. Mentor departmental staff to encourage employee growth and build future leadership.  Will maintain a physical presence at each West Coast location as appropriate and agreed upon with General Manager. Direct weekly workload and priorities for Building Maintenance Foreperson. Oversee the nursery’s tractor rental, forklift rental and other major equipment rental programs. Will meet with Production Managers, General Manager, and appropriate personnel on a regular scheduled basis to analyze the nursery’s work, with a focus on efficiency improvements via mechanization, Lean principles, process improvement and technology. Lead research & development on new equipment projects.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing a mechanic shop and crew.
  • Extensive knowledge regarding operations and repairs of agricultural equipment and machinery; construction and carpentry; electricity and plumbing.
  • Knowledge of wholesale nursery operations and activities per season.
  • Experience in personnel management, including hiring, training, coaching, disciplinary action, and consistent approach implementing company policies guided by Human Resources.
  • Self-motivated, decisive, and organized.
  • Able to handle pressure and work under deadlines.
  • Fiscally responsible, with proven ability to manage large operating budgets responsibly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large construction and design/build projects.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet company criteria for insurability.
