Are you ready to rock Design at Exelon where designers team up to create cohesive user and client experiences that delight and empower our residential and commercial customers as well as our internal clients, such as customer service representatives and field personnel? We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. UX Designer on our Team Digital Design team who is flexible, excels in ambiguity, and enjoys working in a highly collaborative organization. Although UX Design will be your primary role, we are looking for a candidate with secondary skills in Visual Design and data visualization or User Research.

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

We have several exciting opportunities for Senior UX Designers on our Team Digital Design team who are flexible, excel in ambiguity, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative organization. Although UX Design will be your primary role, we are looking for candidates with secondary skills in Visual Design, User Research, and/or Artificial Intelligence.

 

As a Senior UX Designer with Exelon Corporation, America’s leading competitive energy provider, you will create best-in-class user experiences, help provide strategic direction for all aspects of the user experience and collaboratively design out a wide range of digital solutions that shape the future of Exelon and its customers.

 

This role works in deep collaboration with other designers, Product Management, Engineering, Data Analytics, and our users to understand business objectives (think of KPIs), user needs and goals, technical platforms and capabilities (think of APIs), to translate these into a delightful user experience and content strategy. The Senior UX Designer should be a strong coach, communicator and storyteller who applies all aspects of Human-Centered Design (HCD) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and makes sure we are solving the right problems with the best solutions on desktop and mobile devices.

 

The ideal candidate has a background in all types of digital experiences including adaptive & responsive web design and is fluent with tools like Sketch, Invision, and Freehand (or other Whiteboarding tools), Abstract, and Design Thinking, and Agile or SAFe. Location: These positions are open to our Design Studio in Baltimore, MD, and our offices in downtown Chicago, IL. Presently, we are working from our homes but are expected to return to our offices post-pandemic.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead, coach, and engage design talent to ensure goals are met, the team is delivering to the highest quality, and the work is being done effectively.
  • Contribute to the design and definition of features, along with user research needs, our design system, and our design strategy to enable project or product delivery to drive outcomes and ensure quality of design deliverables meet or exceed digital standards. Represent the voice of the customer and advocate for user needs, while considering business goals and technical constraints.
  • Use design processes (e.g., design thinking, user research, personas, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, journey maps, etc.) and tools, along with design presentation skills, to take digital solutions from concept to market in collaboration with stakeholders and team members.
  • Showcase deep empathy for our users, a desire to learn as much as possible about how to best serve our users and represent the voice of the customer across all aspects of the business and touch points.
  • Cross-pollinate and collaborate between other departments including product management, engineering, data science/AI, marketing and technology.
  • Reliably support multiple projects and engagements simultaneously.
  • Showcase a strong awareness of common usability principles, accessibility, and a natural propensity towards simplification rather than complication.

 

Qualifications - External

POSITION SCOPE

  • Grow and maintain deep knowledge of the product design and development industry and best practices.
  • Develop deep domain expertise in the energy space.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of business objectives to ensure alignment of design strategy on a product or project.
  • Communicate and align with stakeholders and keep them informed on our progress and goals showcasing solution design and strategy with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other designers and design leadership to evolve our processes and tools and contribute to our growing design system to increase operational efficiency and quality and establish rituals that ensure long-term health and team cohesion.
  • Coach and lead other designers assigned (Contractor and Fulltime) to their product or project team.
  • Help roadmap design-activities and milestones to inform staffing forecasts.
  • Be an internal and external thought leader and innovator in order to educate and contribute to a healthy talent pipeline (e.g., present at events or conferences).
  • Be highly independent with an ability to work under minimal supervision.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (IT, Computer Science, Web Design, (User Experience, Design, Human Computer Interaction, Information Science etc.) and 5 - 8 years of relevant experience (including detailed annotated wireframes, UX design, user flows, user interface design, and process flows within complex applications) or 9 – 12 years of relevant experience
  • A portfolio featuring a variety of design solutions across multiple platforms
  • Experience planning and facilitating discovery workshops with stakeholders
  • Experience with prototyping across various platforms
  • Ability to work in dynamic, often ambiguous conditions requiring rapid transitions between collaborative and individual work
  • Strong problem solving and analysis ability
  • Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to coach and lead team members and collaborators
  • Ability to work with remote project teams

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree of the above
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to adhere to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • A portfolio demonstrating experience with user research, user experience strategy, and user interface design
  • A strong understanding of design thinking principles
  • Self-motivated and able to prioritize and manage workload and meet critical project milestones and deadlines


Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and collaboration skills
