Senior Strategic Communications Manager

BAO Systems is seeking a dynamic and visionary Senior Strategic Communications Manager to lead our strategic communication initiatives. We are looking for someone who not only possesses exceptional storytelling skills but also excels in strategic leadership, high-level stakeholder engagement, crisis management, and resource allocation. This role will play a pivotal part in elevating BAO Systems' reputation, impact, and thought leadership in the international development and data solutions sector.


Core Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Be the driving force behind our strategic storytelling efforts, utilizing a range of formats, including written content (press releases, articles, blogs, reports), multimedia (videos, infographics, podcasts), and social media.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and partners to extract the intricate details of how our solutions are enhancing their initiatives. 
  • Develop persuasive use cases, utilizing visual design tools, to create engaging content.
  • Go beyond statistics and numbers to tell stories of lives saved, treatments delivered, and communities transformed. Create narratives that highlight the tangible outcomes of our work, incorporating data visualization and interactive content where relevant.
  • Coordinate with our visual design team to ensure communications are brand consistent, visually appealing, and engaging.  
  • Engage with top-level executives, team leads, and key stakeholders to align our communication strategies with our organization's strategic objectives. Provide expert advice to senior leaders on communication-related matters.
  • Oversee communication efforts on a global scale, navigating cultural nuances, local regulations, and global market dynamics to ensure our messaging resonates worldwide.
  • Advocate for policies and issues that align with our mission and values, positioning BAO Systems as a trusted voice in international development and data solutions, using public relations tools.
  • Drive thought leadership initiatives, developing and promoting content that showcases our expertise and insights, establishing BAO Systems as an industry leader.
  • Craft and manage communications that reinforces our brand's authority.
  • Explore and cultivate strategic partnerships with organizations and influencers to expand our reach and amplify our impact.
  • Implement rigorous measurement and reporting mechanisms to evaluate the impact of our communication efforts, utilizing analytics and data visualization.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff, nurturing their growth and development as communication professionals.
  • Must be located on the East Coast of the United States in reasonable commute to Washington, D.C.
  • On-site Washington, D.C. client-facing meetings as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 4-6 years of progressive experience in strategic communications with a strong portfolio of impactful storytelling across various formats.
  • Deep knowledge of international development and data solutions sectors.
  • Exceptional storytelling and writing skills.
  • Experience with interface design tools, like Figma or similar.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media management tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client engagement and extracting impactful details.
  • Commitment to BAO Systems' mission and a passion for driving global change through strategic communication.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) to create visuals, graphics, and promotional materials.
  • Multilingual skills, particularly Francophone speaking
