Senior Privacy Counsel

Norwalk, CT

Reporting to the Booking Holdings, Chief Privacy Officer, you are the senior privacy legal advisor providing guidance for vendor and third party contracts, as well as for regulatory developments working to provide value to BHI and its Brands in maturing our Privacy Program. This role is expected to develop the strategy, policies and processes to strengthen our privacy program across all Brands, globally.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide focused and pragmatic advice on the implementation and impact of global privacy laws and issues to brand privacy leaders, procurement, brand, marketing and business teams
  • Coordinate with regional counsel to perform multi-jurisdictional assessments in order to assist with global regulatory change management
  • Provide SME support on privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default reviews, privacy impact assessments, and data protection impact assessments
  • Support security incident response team in the evaluation of, and response to data incidents
  • Assist in leading and driving privacy and data protection compliance for the appropriate business and functional leaders and their teams
  • Update and maintain user friendly external privacy notices, internal privacy and data handling policies, playbooks, and other materials supporting Booking Holdings’ privacy program
  • Support compliance strategies for U.S. and international data privacy and personal information collection rules, regulations and standards
  • Assist in driving data protection contract terms to achieve business objectives


Qualifications

  • JD and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, and/or in-house legal departments. In-house experience at a multinational, consumer-facing technology company is strongly preferred
  • Strong experience with global privacy laws relevant to consumer facing technology companies
  • Strong experience negotiating broad range of commercial contracts
  • CIPP/US or CIPP/E
  • Extensive privacy review/impact assessment experience in business processes and technology
  • Deep understanding of effective operations management of personal data, protecting of the Data Subject Rights and enabling data processing for business outcomes
  • Strong understanding of privacy policy, privacy regulatory landscape, and privacy risk management
  • Outstanding relationship and communication skills. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical ideas to diverse audiences
  • Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and facilitation for decision making
