Senior Media Strategist

Remote (United States)

Under the guidance of Media Management, this position is responsible for the development and execution of strategic and audience-driven paid media plans across all media and publishing platforms. The Senior Media Strategist will begin to hone their management skills and interact with the media department, internal integrated team, clients and media partners. 


Essential Functions

  • The Senior Media Strategist will bring forward thinking and innovation to paid media plan development, ensuring plans deliver against the client KPI and overall audience channel strategy.
  • Depending on client assignment, employee will be expected to plan and work across all types of paid media, including digital, social and traditional, gaining advanced knowledge in all areas.
  • Expected to monitor both traditional and digital campaigns, optimizing where necessary in order to meet client KPI’s.
  • Attend client meetings and run point as needed on all paid media efforts, including oversight of status agendas and follow-up correspondence. 
  • Reviews and evaluates media proposals submitted, developing POVs as needed.
  • Leads/oversees with media negotiations and budget stewardship of plan/flowcharts from concept to final invoice reconciliation.
  • Secures and manages added value as part of plan negotiations to achieve client objectives, as well as providing appropriate recaps as needed.
  • Generates insertion orders for approved media plans.
  • Depending on client, ability to work within and have knowledge of various media platforms such as Facebook/Instagram, ad platforms and traditional media buying programs.
  • Updates all media flowcharts, budget & invoice reconciliations and plans as necessary.
  • Sends and tracks media authorizations and contracts, including proper documentation of all approvals, signed paperwork and revised documents.
  • Oversees development and updates of creative grids with proper media specifications for account and creative teams.
  • Depending on client, contributes to or leads reporting, optimization and analysis/ROI of client plans.  
  • Depending on client needs, facilitates competitive market/media analysis on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis for both internal and client teams. 
  • Reports to and collaborates with Media Strategy Supervisor or as assigned as strategic media point on client business, helping deliver goal-oriented outcomes. 
  • If needed, works with Assistant Media Strategist and Media Strategist on a regular basis, including work flow and professional development, in conjunction with Media Strategy Supervisor.
  • Depending on the client assignment(s), role may specialize in broadcast, programmatic or other specialized areas within the organization. 


Other Responsibilities

  • Understands and abides by the agency’s business practices, core values, philosophies and understands R&R’s branded process, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Depending on client, office location or business needs, some travel may be required.
  • Will obtain various certifications including The TradeDesk, Facebook and Google within the first year of employment and complete R&R’s internal training program within the first year.

  • Maintains a business appropriate appearance and demeanor with clients and in other professional environments.
  • Must be conscientious and self-motivated.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when necessary. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising or related field or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum five years’ experience in paid media planning and buying with some supervisory experience.
  • Experience and familiarity with planning and/or buying media including: traditional media channels, Facebook Ads Manager, Google Ads (search, YouTube, Google Display Network, Discovery), Programmatic DSPs like The Trade Desk or other social platforms Twitter, Snapchat and TikTok.
  • Experience and familiarity with agency research tools including: Advantage and Strata/Freewheel, Google Analytics, Google Campaign Manager (formerly Doubleclick) ad server, Scarborough research via Prime Lingo platform, GWI research, Kantar competitive research, etc.
  • Strong oral, written and effective interpersonal communication skills.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers and filing cabinets.
