Senior Manager, Legal Operations

Discord is looking for an exceptional Senior Manager, Legal Operations to join our growing Legal team. This is a first-in-kind, high-impact role at one of the most interesting companies on the planet! 


As Senior Manager, Legal Operations, you will be the driving force of innovation, scale, technology and automation for the Discord legal team. You will be responsible for leading, building, and streamlining the strategic technologies and operational functions of the Legal department as our company expands around the world. You will build and scale a team that will implement key systems, optimize processes, manage projects, create objectives, and report performance metrics to deliver legal services in the most collaborative, friendly, and efficient manner, including supporting both internal and external resource management. You'll get to work with some super inspiring people, including our Workplace, People, IT, and Finance teams and a growing team of external vendors and law firms

What You’ll Do

  • Recruit, build, scale, and lead a team of Operations professionals and Legal Analysts that supports the entire Legal department’s efforts to provide strategic and efficient counsel to the company
  • Enhance existing tools (including contract management and e-billing systems and integrations) and develop or adopt new tools to enable streamlined team collaboration and workflow automation within the Legal department and among business partners
  • Manage system deployments, enhancements, and related process guidelines, and troubleshoot issues with IT team and vendors
  • Identify and track department metrics, KPIs, and legal operations reporting to better inform decision-making, including matter and work product analyses
  • Improve data integrity and analytical reporting capacity
  • Create processes for capturing, distributing, and effectively using legal knowledge and information, from work products (such as legal memos, emails, and contracts) to ensure efficient use of prior experience
  • Track trends in in-house legal department best practices, and collect relevant benchmarking to inform department initiatives and decisions
  • Manage strategic and operational Legal department projects from start to finish, with on-time and in-budget results
  • Assist with the development of the Legal budget, business cases, and other funding requests for Legal department initiatives
  • Capture full matter costs to aid in active spend management and monitor operational costs for improved budget forecasting accuracy
  • Facilitate the process for sourcing, negotiating, selecting, and managing law firms and external service providers through defined processes and reporting
  • Collect, measure, and report on supplier diversity metrics


What You Should Have

  • 5+ years of experience leading an in-house legal operations team, law firm, or operational management role
  • Experience implementing and efficiently scaling legal technology solutions (e.g. contract and document management, workflow automation, knowledge management, e-billing and spend management, e-signature processes)
  • Experience building strong, collaborative relationships with key business partners within the team, across departments, and with external stakeholders, 
  • Ability to influence decisions, manage change, and balance multiple business function priorities 
  • Ability to recruit, lead, manage, and develop direct reports
  • Detailed planning and organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to identify opportunities, define requirements, and implement process improvement
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive, creative, data-driven approach to problem-solving
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging

  • Familiarity with Discord, Asana, and Google Workspace
  • In-house legal department experience with a consumer-oriented tech company
