Senior Manager, Distribution and Transportation

About the Team:  

The Operations team, frequently known as Ops, are master organizers. They thrive on the logistics of stuff—from managing our shipping systems to fine-tuning timelines to keeping a close eye on our inventory. Ops work with every single employee at Rothy’s, including our retail staff, and they make organizational magic wherever they go. 


The Senior Manager, Distribution and Transportation reports to the VP, Supply Chain and is responsible for establishing and successfully managing distribution center and transportation vendor Service Level Agreements (SLAs), budgets, and projects. The role ensures there is full transparency between performance targets and results. The Senior Manager, Distribution and Transportation monitors and reports on the integrity of distribution and transportation related inventory. It will effectively partner cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders on omnichannel fulfillment (e-commerce, store allocation, wholesale, inbound freight receipts, and project management). While operating as the point of contact between our fulfillment centers, transportation vendors and our internal operations, you will use critical thinking and understand, enforce, and articulate all distribution center and transportation protocols/SLAs. With an analytical and puzzle-solving mindset and strong partnerships at every touchpoint from factory to point of sale, you will contribute towards the success of our growing brand.


What you’ll do:

Deliver Warehousing and Transportation Business Requirements: 

  • Lead, coordinate, and fulfill company distribution and transportation needs for retail stores, e-commerce, vendors, and other business-related requests
  • Manage on-time delivery and resolve daily challenges and open issues in a timely manner
  • Effectively analyze and manage distribution center/3PL and transportation budgets
  • Manage and deliver on SLAs
  • Manage reporting and analytics and recommend changes to drive effectiveness
  • Effectively lead/manage distribution and transportation related projects
  • Maintain warehouse and in-transit inventory integrity
  • Manage reverse logistics
  • Establish specific strategic initiatives to support the short- and long-term business requirements, including building and managing a team of direct reports
  • Ensure a safe working environment though SOPs and on-site monitoring
  • Establish and manage best operational practices through SOPs and LEAN/5S initiatives


Vendor Relations and Management:

  • Own the vendor's success as it relates to Contracts, SOPs and SLAs 
  • Proactively participate and interact with vendors and cross-functional leaders to drive success
  • Lead/participate in the negotiations and execution of contract proposals
  • Audit vendor distribution center operations to ensure SOPs, operating standards, cost controls, and inventory controls are being maintained at all times
  • Build on 3PL and Transportation SOPs to assist in providing best in class customer service (speed, reliability, accuracy, etc.)
  • Ensure vendors react quickly to changes in the business
  • Further develop and employ strategy and growth plans with vendors
  • Track and improve vendor operational performance through KPI, SLA, and budget scorecards
  • Monitor vendor codes of conduct


You are:

  • Experienced and highly effective in successfully managing 3PLs and Transportation vendor performance, budgets, and contractual agreements
  • Proficient in budgeting and managing distribution center operating and transportation costs
  • Experienced in managing transportation vendors contracts and SLAs (small package, LTL, FTL)
  • Experienced in writing distribution center SOPs
  • Experienced in distribution center and in-transit inventory control
  • Experienced in distribution center wave planning
  • Experienced in order returns processing
  • Experienced in customer service
  • Highly experienced with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
  • Entrepreneurial and thrive in environments of high expectations in customer service, profitability, and operational excellence


You have:

  • 5+ years of experience directly managing distribution center employees and operations in an omnichannel 3PL or company-owned distribution center
  • Experience leading a e-comm/retail/wholesale distribution center
  • Experience in managing new 3PL and company-owned DC start-ups
  • Experience implementing vendor RFQs
  • Experience in managing complex distribution center projects
  • Kaizen/5S experience 
  • Financial and analytical skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in working in complex, high growth environments
  • The ability and availability to travel up to 20%
