Senior Manager, Communications

New York, NY

Major League Soccer/Soccer United Marketing seeks a dynamic professional to focus on non-sports programs and content at the league and its member clubs. The individual will have strong communications skills and a track record of creatively selling ideas and concepts that result in story placement. Experience and significant relationships with editorial decision makers in the areas of business media are critical to this role. The position is based in New York, NY.


Primary Responsibilities

Corporate publicity

  • In consultation with Sr. Director of Communications, assist with creating and implementing the communications strategies in key business units, included but not limited to, partnership marketing (sponsorship), brand alliance (new business development), emerging venturesconsumer products, and esports.
  • Support efforts of Senior Director, Corporate Communications to develop corporate communications (off-sports page) strategy for the League and clubs. 
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact with media to help drive placements in high-profile and local outlets
  • Work with partners, affiliates and vendors on high-impact media opportunities that consistently secure coverage in a cross-section of media platforms (print, broadcast, online).
  • Support the growth of the League’s consumer products business and licensees.
  • Serve as the stakeholder for select corporate partners and creating and maintain talking points and positioning on various topics important to the business units
  • Manage publicity for various public relations elements for Major League Soccer/Soccer United Marketing special events (ex: press conferences, publicity stunts, photo opportunities, media tours and more)
  • Manage creation, editing and distribution of appropriate press releases and informational documents
  • Develop relationships with key media members, influential bookers, producers, and talent.


Additional Responsibilities

  • In coordination with Vice President, International Communications, contribute towards business communications strategy of various Soccer United Marketing properties, including CONCACAF Gold Cup, Mexican National Team U.S. Tour, Campeones Cup, and Leagues Cup among others.
  • Assist Sr. Director of Corporate Communications with League’s executive visibility strategy inclusive of endemic and non-endemic awards, conferences and lists.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of experience in public relations

  • Ability to travel and to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays


Desired Skills

  • Experience is the lifestyle and/or entertainment industry
  • Knowledge of and passion for Major League Soccer and/or the sport of soccer
  • Experience in sports industry
  • Knowledge of the Spanish Language (business proficiency)


Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $90,000 – 105,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
