Senior Legal Specialist

New York, NY

This position is for a legal specialist who will be responsible for supporting a variety of transactional work.  The position will be part of Pfizer’s Legal Business Transactions group and will support attorneys across the group.


The individual selected will be primarily responsible for handling and managing a broad range of matters, including negotiating, drafting and supporting agreements related to Pfizer’s businesses in areas such as M&A and licensing, manufacturing, real estate, R&D, and Sourcing.  The individual will also backup other legal specialists and support clients and attorneys in these areas, advise on certain low and medium risk transactions, provide support to Pfizer’s antitrust team on antitrust merger reviews and filings, and advise on business intelligence projects.


Specific examples of tasks include:

  • Helping negotiate, draft, and revise and review agreements, including confidential disclosure agreements, service and other agreements, and leases
  • Counsel clients on issues that arise in negotiation of agreements and answer questions from clients
  • Act as a subject matter expert to advise other legal professionals and other Pfizer colleagues
  • Advise end clients on risks
  • Advise, as needed, on terminations and amendments of agreements
  • Consult with other legal division colleagues, as needed, when an issue that arises overlaps with their areas of responsibility
  • Support attorneys in the group on larger matters such as M&A processes, antitrust merger reviews, real estate, and manufacturing agreements


Skills Required: 

Experience with drafting of contracts and other agreements, negotiating experience, counseling, presenting to groups, problem recognition and problem solving, flexibility, strong organizational skills, strong communication skills, leadership, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and ability to learn new skills and develop new areas of expertise.


Basic Qualifications:

  • BA or BS preferred or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-accredited school
  • 5 - 10 years of experience
  • Expertise in drafting, working on and negotiating contracts of all types including confidential disclosure agreements, licenses, vendor agreements, etc.
  • Effectively and efficiently prioritizes a dynamic workload
  • Proven ability to handle complex, high-profile projects with tight time frames
  • Advanced analytical, research and problem solving skills
  • Superior leadership skills with track record of successfully leading teams
  • Ability to coach, counsel and advise colleagues at a similar level
  • A collaborative and decisive working style that fosters cooperation and encourages others to seek the specialist's counsel
  • An ability to properly balance the company’s broader goals with each matter’s particulars
  • An ability to hone in on the relevant details while maintaining focus on the big picture
  • Experience engaging directly with senior management, opposing counsel and client groups
  • Versatile and able to support other transaction areas as needs arise
  • Self-motivated, extremely organized, and solution-focused
