Senior Graphic Designer

Responsibilities

The Senior Graphic Designer (SGD) is chiefly responsible for designing various client-bound training modalities and internal marketing collateral as well as overseeing such efforts of junior and contract designers. The main goal of the SGD is to ensure consistent, high-quality output of all such deliverables on a daily basis. The SGD reports to the Director of Creative Services (DCS) within Learning Solutions.


The SGD guides the creation of ideas and visuals for PowerPoint workshop decks primarily, but also for e-learning modules, pdf documents, email design, printed posters, booklets, social media graphics, video storyboarding and web design, for internal and external clients alike.


This position will also entail the oversight of 1-3 select projects with respect to the visual/designs, as designated by the DCS when ready. The SGD will then essentially be the design lead on select projects and meet with the DCS and the respective project manager(s) to ensure all the deliverables within each such project are consistent in approach and style, along with helping to track to the needs of other designers on the same project, if applicable. 


The SGD will aid the DCS and other full-time design staff in creating best practices within our team’s processes and expectations, establish new ways to present our work for pitch work, as well as investigate new, viable paths to bring overall innovation to our client deliverables. This person also plays a role in assisting project managers with the allocation of other design resources, project budgeting and timelines on a fairly regular basis with regards to design-related tasks, requirements and standards. 


Additional core job responsibilities:

  • Works efficiently and effectively to adhere to manage his own time against project budgets and timelines; maximizing his own utilization against billable hours
  • Creates deliverables that adhere to client brand guidelines and are focused around the client’s objective
  • Proactively addresses potential problems during the design/creation process, and quickly addresses any cause of dissatisfaction from colleagues or clients if and when they emerge
  • Communicates early and often with colleagues ensuring project and other work needs are in alignment
  • Communicates directly with clients to discuss project parameters, creative concepts, and to manage expectations as well as present their designs and mockups, as needed
  • Provides timely and effective response to, and service for internal and external task and information requests
  • Proactively researches and self-educates on subject matter that needs to be portrayed graphically, such as disease states, drug administration and client branding initiatives
  • Contributes regularly to our team’s online “hub” website, serving as a central source of best practices and other relevant information important to our work


Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

The position requires a formal understanding of graphic design fundamentals. A Bachelors or Associates degree in graphic design and at least 5 years of graphic design work experience working within a team (not strictly in a freelance capacity). The successful candidate will have strong visual design skills and more importantly, a strong ability to visually conceptualization a given idea. A portfolio that demonstrates these abilities, along including the ability to create proper print files is a must. Experience in storyboarding for digital interactivity and for short videos are also important, but not required if the candidate is eager to quickly learn and apply these skills. The interest and ability to design for other technologies such as AR or VR is also welcomed, but not a requirement.


Strong PowerPoint skills is also a must. Advanced Photoshop and Illustrator skills required.
