Senior Employment Counsel

Remote (United States) New York, NY

Zynga is looking for a highly qualified Senior Employment Counsel to join its innovative legal department. In this role, you will be responsible for the management of complex employment matters involving employees in North America. 


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as advisor and partner to Human Resources and key business leaders on all employment and employee benefit issues in North America including, for instance, issues relating to performance management, leaves and accommodations, and wage and hour compliance.
  • Handle in-house investigations and employee charges pending before federal and state agencies, supervising outside counsel where appropriate.
  • Assist or lead in handling employment litigation and pre-litigation disputes; hands-on role in coordinating and directing case strategy, including discovery, drafting and editing briefs, internal investigations, interviewing and preparing witnesses and negotiations with third parties.
  • Develop, draft, and implement company policies, agreements, standards, and business procedures designed to foster compliance with federal, state, local, and international employment laws.
  • Drive efficiencies and achieve process improvements through collaboration with Human Resources and other corporate functions.
  • Negotiate and review executive employment agreements, independent contractor arrangements, and certain related vendor agreements.
  • Analyze impact of legislative changes to our employment and employee benefit practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Structure, negotiate, and draft settlement agreements, separation agreements, and other related agreements and policies.
  • Provide employee training in various areas, including anti-harassment and code of business conduct.


MAIN SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • The ability to work well in a fast-paced, high volume, in-house environment, demonstrating responsiveness, good business judgment, flexibility, self-confidence, and a sense of humor.
  • Demonstrable experience acting as a trusted business partner enabling businesses to measure and manage risk in a changing landscape.
  • The ability to be innovative and provide creative solutions to complex legal problems.
  • Deep knowledge of US employment laws, including in California, Illinois, Texas, and New York. Knowledge of and experience with employee benefit laws is also highly valued.
  • Knowledge of Canadian employment laws is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • JD from an ABA accredited university.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the California or New York Bar.
  • Minimum of 6 years relevant employment experience in a law firm and/or corporate law department required, including both counseling and litigation.
  • Prior in-house experience with a public company and/or experience working with technology companies preferred.
