Senior Director, Sport Brand Communications

Portland, OR

The Senior Director Brand Communications for Sport is a new position created to win the hearts and minds of athletes across our key sport categories for North America. Reporting to the VP of Brand Communications & Planning, this position would be responsible for leading a high caliber Marketing team of 12, across Running, Soccer and NCAA. You will own and steer the strategy and execution of plans, creative content and KPI's in collaboration with our Global counterparts to generate market level consumer demand.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible to coordinate the creation of a consistent brand communication strategy for North America (NAM), taking into account both Global strategy and the US consumer
  • Be able to look across the Sport categories to coordinate, money and resources strategically to accomplish our business goals
  • Oversee Business Unit's (BU/Categories) in their role as the consumer expert for their area of the business, including identifying the information needed for a full view of the consumer, analysis of current intel, process and accountability between Global and Local teams on consumer, identification of studies needed, internal and external resources to help, as well as competitive analysis
  • Support VP Brand Activation in MWB process: building, managing, analysis and enforcing and reporting aspects of all MWB lines.
  • Ensure the execution of the Global Omni-Channel calendar (including any locally planned and globally approved Market-specific initiatives) with a focus on eComm, key cities, Own Retail (primary) and Wholesale (secondary).
  • Responsible for key KPIs and corrective actions / learnings against them
  • Partnership with Senior Leadership across Originals, Brand Comms, Digital, Media, Planning and Brand health on best practices for marketing plans, based on knowledge of the discipline, the Sport category and what has or has not worked within our teams
  • Oversight of agency roster and selection to ensure strong relationships, good direction, diversity of skill sets and perspectives and appropriate pricing (in partnership with procurement)
  • Oversee sell-in tools to provide a consumer centric view (who we are addressing, why, their influences and behavior) at Sales Launch period
  • Provide feedback to Global Sport Comms lead as releated to Comms strategy, what is being delivered and the performance/learnings around concepts and approach
  • Consistent planning and communication with BU teams to ensure marketing and merch plans are complimentary
  • Lead by example in driving a high employee engagement and high performance culture
  • Identify and develop high-potential talents, to fuel the team's succession plan

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Progressive experience in brand and/or product marketing
  • Leading and managing a diverse team
  • Proven ability to take projects from high level strategy all the way to consumer touch points
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation, planning, and analytical skills

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.), with an emphasis in Marketing/Business/Sales preferred, and
  • At least 10 years sports or other product marketing or related experience, 6 years at the managerial level in the Sporting Goods Industry.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for degree.
