Senior Director, Product Marketing & Innovation

Toronto, ON

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Commercial and serving as an integral member of the Auxly Commercial team, the Senior Director, Marketing & Innovation will oversee the development and execution of brand, product portfolio and innovation strategy. The Senior Director, Marketing & Innovation’s work is expected to produce top line results, a robust innovation pipeline, strong consumer insights, and superior marketing efforts increasing brand awareness, recognition and loyalty that will ultimately lead to increased sales.

 

What can you expect to do?

  • Embody Auxly’s business mission, and strategy and act in a responsible, ethical and honest behaviour while consistently leading by example.
  • Lead a multi-functional team by being a strong and empathetic People Leader: Inspire autonomous decision making, drive talent development, set goals and objectives for direct reports and support them in achieving individual and team progress in order to create a culture for organic succession planning.
  • Facilitate and lead a group of marketing professionals on the strategy, planning and execution of Auxly’s annual brand plans and marketing activities.
  • Drive a customer-focused trade marketing strategy and execute with excellence across both key accounts and independent retailers.
  • Lead a robust digital strategy via paid, owned, and earned executions.
  • Own the long-term innovation pipeline development across all Auxly categories as well a drive portfolio strategy involving product optimization and rationalization.
  • Lead the development and execution of the front-end innovation process including gathering category insights, leading cross-functional ideation sessions, drafting concepts, testing concepts, and preparing project charters of winning ideas.
  • Own the organization’s Insight strategy and execution through uncovering, communicating, and translating insights into meaningful plans to grow multiple facets of the business.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual research plan leveraging a suite of tools to gain consumer, customer, and budtender insights.
  • Own and monitor brand health and engagement, conduct competitive analyses, customer segmentation, manage metrics, KPIs, insights and ROI’s, etc.


What we’re looking for

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in a combination of brand management and innovation roles within a consumer products industry with a preference to individuals with a combination of top-tiered CPG and small/mid-cap entrepreneurial company experience.
  • 5+ years experience managing a team and with a proven ability to coach both direct and indirect reports.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset and self-starter with an ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynaminc environment.
  • Experience in the cannabis industry: A deep understanding of the legal landscape, the different types of cannabis products and their benefits, and the target audience is critical
  • Proven track record of leading the entire innovation process from conception to commercialization by launching several successful products and brands.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Marketing expertise: A track record of successful marketing campaigns, a deep understanding of branding, advertising, and social media strategy is important.
  • Creative thinking: Ability to think outside of the box and develop innovative marketing campaigns that resonate with consumers.
  • Analytical skills: Must have the ability to analyze data and market trends to identify opportunities and create data-driven marketing strategies.
  • Leadership skills: Ability to lead and manage a team, foster a collaborative work environment, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication skills: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial to effectively convey the company's message and brand to customers, stakeholders, and employees.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: As the cannabis industry continues to evolve and regulations change, the Head of Marketing should be able to quickly adapt to new market conditions and pivot marketing strategies accordingly.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing (although MBA preferred).
