Senior Director, Internal Communications & Employee Engagement

Shelton, WA

The Senior Director, Internal Communications & Employee Engagement will be part of a dynamic team responsible for developing compelling and actionable strategies that drive tangible results and deliver critical business priorities. Reporting to the Vice President/Head of Global Communications with a dotted line to the Vice President, People & Culture, this is a highly collaborative, visible, and strategic position, as you will develop strategy and translate it to action with narratives, creative execution, and programs that inspire, motivate, and drive employee understanding, engagement, and ambassadorship.

 

The Director will orchestrate and oversee internal and – where relevant – agency teams in implementing programs and developing compelling content, including speeches, announcements, events, and videos. Responsibilities include:

  • Build and execute the internal communications strategy for proactively aligning team members around BIC’s vision, mission, and business priorities in support of the Horizon Plan and business growth
  • Own the design and execution of this strategy – including compelling content development – across all internal communications channels (intranet, global town halls, podcasts, videos, newsletters, email announcements)
  • Track and measure progress in employee engagement with content / executions against tangible KPIs. Develop plans to ensure ongoing content and channel optimization
  • Play a leadership role in building stronger connections between the company and its team members, improving employee engagement and directing the successful implementation, maintenance and evolution of communication platforms and programs. This includes working collaboratively with other departments and teams that collectively impact the overall employee experience, driving continuous improvement
  • Serve as a gatekeeper and strategic adviser to ensure that communication is created and shared appropriately and in the most effective way possible, both meeting and managing team member and people leader expectations to drive positive outcomes
  • Lead effective change in communication strategy, techniques, and technology to better leverage opportunities to use video and podcasts and other non-written communication mediums to share information and connect with diverse groups of employees
  • Design and implement engagement strategies to promote awareness and adoption of our employment brand across the various stages of the employee lifecycle and build brand ambassadors
  • In partnership with HR (Human Resources) team members, implement major internal initiatives and engagement activities
  • In partnership with People and Culture team, and executive leadership team, drive both listening and engagement strategies based on engagement survey results analysis, focus group feedback, identified trends, and recommendations to improve and maintain high employee engagement
  • Execute a Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion communications strategy
  • Oversee the alignment of regional internal communications executions and own the global internal communications calendar to ensure synergies and best-practice sharing across regions
  • Key member of the Global Communications Team and co-owner of the global communications calendar to ensure alignment between internal and external executions
  • Key member of Crisis Communications response team, coordinating the internal response and communications to issues and crises as required
  • People leader, able to motivate, grow and retain talent in line with the company’s values, purpose and culture


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Demonstrated experience, energy, and passion for storytelling with 10+ years of experience within corporate communications and employee communications in-house or at an agency
  • Demonstrates elevated levels of business acumen, critical thinking, creativity, and effectiveness, delivering measurable outcomes with a relentless drive towards excellence
  • Has an international mindset, able to drive a global agenda with local nuance that resonates in the market
  • Thought leadership to senior business executives, skillfully managing and supporting their communications needs
  • A whole-brain thinker and excellent writer/communicator, able to uncover insights and translate complex business strategies into simple, yet compelling narratives and executions
  • Skilled, agile project leader, able to simplify complexity and orchestrate delivery on time, every time
  • Inspiring team player, able to mobilize and / or support cross functional people and teams toward a common vision
