Senior Director, Consumer Communications

San Francisco, CA

Chime is seeking to expand its Communications team and is looking for a seasoned leader, media-savvy storyteller, and creative strategist who will come up with ways to tell our story and drive home our mission to the media and the general public. 


The ideal candidate is a strategic, creative and collaborative communications pro, who can expertly lead integrated consumer campaigns with internal and external partners. You will be responsible for big-picture thinking and high-level execution, managing agency partners, maintaining a steady drumbeat of national and local PR initiatives, and finding creative ways to turn press coverage into opportunities to drive Chime’s brand and mission forward, increases member loyalty, and share our unique member stories, and product offerings. This role will report directly to the VP of Communications and sit on the broader Corporate Affairs team, collaborating closely with the Marketing leadership team.


We are building the most beloved banking and payments superapp in furtherance of our mission to “Help everyday people achieve financial peace of mind, together” and this executive will spearhead the enhancement of Chime’s policy strategy and identity as a mission-driven organization with regulators, electeds, and the community. The successful candidate will be an incredibly collaborative and well-rounded government affairs executive with experience in a heavily regulated industry (Fintech or Financial Services preferred) and will ideally have experience with a disruptive technology company.


For Colorado based roles: In accordance with applicable law, this role has an annual starting salary of $223,020 plus bonus, a competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual pay may be higher depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.


In this role, you can expect to

  • In collaboration with the VP of Communications and key stakeholders, develop and own consumer PR objectives and strategy.
  • Lead creative campaigns, insights/data, and storylines that elevate the Chime brand through consumer news moments and a steady drumbeat of press coverage around product launches, seasonal moments, brand and influencer partnerships, data-driven lists and trend reports.
  • Take a 360 view of sharing our pro-consumer narrative, collaborating closely with Marketing, Government Affairs, Public Affairs, Community, Product, SEO, Social, Content, Creative and other internal teams on initiatives to drive consumer engagement.
  • Develop communications materials including messaging, media statements, press releases, blog posts, and presentations.
  • Prepare and media-train Chime’s consumer spokespeople for press interviews.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national and local consumer media, as well as lifestyle press.
  • Manage external agency and drive meaningful, consistent consumer coverage in local and national press.


To thrive in this role, you have  

  • 12+ years of experience in Consumer Public Relations or related Brand, Marketing or Communications experience.
  • Strong leader with experience helping teams succeed while working in a fast-paced and growing cross-functional environment; experience managing outside agency partners.
  • Background managing and scaling large global press campaigns, initiatives, and working across multiple functions.
  • Well-connected with a media contact network across top-tier consumer outlets.
  • Proven track record in successfully placing stories with solid brand positioning in a wide range of outlets.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build relationships with the Marketing, Community, Data, and Product teams. 
  • Experience partnering with Creators, Personalities & Celebrities or Brands to drive earned media that advances corporate, consumer or social impact initiatives.
