Senior Director, Accounting

This position is eligible for remote work. This role will have occasional on site expectations.


Oversees all aspects of accounting operations and external financial reporting for the organization. Produces monthly periodic financial reports and maintains systems for accounting records, as well as a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of reported financial results. Ensures that reported financial results comply with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Collaborates across all functions within the organization that impact financial systems and the consolidated results of operations.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Accounting

  • Oversee the entire accounting cycle, including general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash receipts, fixed assets, account reconciliations, journal entries, consolidation, and financial reviews.
  • Manage all schedules, timelines, and deadlines for the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and consolidation processes within the accounting function.
  • Implement new accounting standards, lead both research projects and technical transactions as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive financial records for the organization, exercising administrative oversight of the financial system (controls, access, etc.).
  • Manage the organization's chart of accounts, designing the organizational structure to best support reporting needs.
  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures, ensuring proper accounting internal controls are maintained and followed.
  • Achieve operational accounting objectives by identifying system improvements and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.


Financial Reporting

  • Direct departmental resources in preparing and completing external financial reports, ensuring timely and accurate filing with the SEC. This includes the preparation and review of Forms 10-Q, 10-K, S-1, 8-K, Prospectus, and Prospectus Supplements.
  • Oversee the organization's EBITDA calculations and provide support documentation for public communications.
  • Communicate accounting policies and technical matters to senior management, the audit committee, and the board of directors.
  • Monitor the collection of accounting and financial information for external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Analyze and review technical accounting transactions and memos and implement new accounting and regulatory standards, such as SEC, FASB, and IASB.
  • Analyze complex business transactions to evaluate the use of proper accounting methodologies, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 12-15 years of corporate accounting and financial experience is required. 
  • Must demonstrate a strong knowledge and understanding of SEC reporting requirements and US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Must have experience with implementing new accounting standards, working on research projects, and lead involvement in technical transactions.
  • Must have excellent managerial skills, including the ability to lead and delegate tasks of large, complex projects.  
  • Must possess finance and business acumen and knowledge of external auditing requirements and reporting. 
  • Must have strong technical and analytical skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 
  • Must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal communications skills both verbally and in writing, including the development of internal accounting controls and processes. 
  • Must demonstrate excellent time management, decision making, and organization skills and be able to perform in a highly collaborative work environment.

  • Must be fully responsible to ensure the integrity of accounting systems, consolidated financial results and support of change management of periodic and consolidated financial planning and reporting. 


Must be able to manage the following performance indicators:

Key Performance Indicators:

  • KPI 1: Ability to recruit, retain, evaluate, and mentor personnel.
  • KPI 2: Timelines and accuracy in reporting monthly operating results and filing consolidated financial statement with the SEC.
  • KPI 3: Business performance in implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and timely issues resolution during close and consolidation
  • KPI 4: Effective communication both within the accounting team and with all other departments
  • KPI 5: Remediation progress against any internal control deficiencies and the number and severity of SOX testing deficiencies found annually.
  • Experience hiring and leading diverse teams.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience at a national accounting firm, particularly at a national office is desired. 
  • Knowledge of financial software such as Oracle, Wdesk, FloQast, etc. is considered a desired skill.


Education/ Licensing/Certification:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) is mandatory.


Pay Range:

$165,000 - $207,000 per year

Physical Requirements:

This position requires you to sit, stand and perform general office functions. You may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
