Senior Counsel Labor And Employment Compliance

Newport Beach, CA

Drives strategy to support compliance with labor employment laws, including, but not limited to child labor, fair work week/secure scheduling, meal and rest periods, sick pay, salary transparency, etc. Works collaboratively with our People Experience and Operations teams, among others, to keep them apprised of new developments in the law, provides interpretations of how the law applies to Chipotle's policies and procedures and makes recommendations on how Chipotle can best comply with the law. Drafts and reviews Chipotle policies and procedures stay up to date with new and changing laws. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

In addition to following and supporting Chipotle’s policies and procedures, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviews and analyzes new labor employment laws (e.g. child labor, fair work week/secure scheduling, meal and rest periods, sick pay, salary transparency, etc.) for implementation and provides strategic advice on how Chipotle can best comply with the law.
  • Analyzes and reviews Chipotle's compliance with labor and employment laws and works collaboratively with People Experience and Operations to strategically develop and establish ongoing best practices for ongoing compliance
  • Works collaboratively with People Experience and other departments to draft policies and procedures to support compliance with employment laws
  • Manages audits by government agencies, including working with outside counsel when necessary and internal teams, to strategically drive the best outcome for Chipotle
  • Participates in the development of training materials regarding labor and employment laws in collaboration with People Compliance, Training and Operations Teams, among others.
  • Supports the litigation team by providing compliance-related materials, trainings and reporting, including research, preparing materials and coordinating responses

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE

  • JD required
  • 5-8 years of experience working as a lawyer, paralegal, compliance manager or in an in-house environment analyzing laws. (Experience in a unionized environment preferred).
  • Proficient with MS Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Workday or comparable HRIS
  • Spanish speaking is a plus
